In the article titled ”Man Denied Parole in a Flagstaff Hotel” the article follows the case of then teenager Jacob Wideman murdering his bunkmate Eric Kane while he slept in his bed at a summer camp hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1986. Jacob was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years, the article was written in 2011the year of his first parole hearing. The issue for the readers to decipher in the article is if they believe Jacob who has served the past 25 years in prison should be granted parole and be released from prison. The article gives up to date insight from the parents of both of boys, Jacob who committed the murder, and Eric the victim all leading up to Jacob’s parole hearing. In this paper I will highlight key points from the article while answering key questions to give a better understanding of the trial for myself and for the readers.
In the article “Greg Ousley Is Sorry for Killing His Parents” by Scott Anderson claims that Greg shall not be sentenced in jail for a long period of time. These individuals conjecture that Greg must not stay in the jail he is being held in. Greg claims that he is one changed man and that he wishes to help young kids that thought equally the same. Spirituality plays a huge role for both Joshua Prager and Abed. From reading your post, it took a drastic accident, and outcome to get the two individuals to observe their lives in a different perspective. Being behind bars as a young inmate in an adult facility for twenty-five years is an every day struggle to survive. Terrance Graham does have access to many educational opportunities and a simple game of chess is risky. He has witnessed another inmate’s rape during his first days of prison, and recently watched another young inmate be killed. He lives among many older inmates that have “nothing to lose” and every day is a quest to survive (Drinan). Even if Terrance Graham could get out one day, he will be labeled as a criminal the rest of his life.
