Crius: Titan God of Constellations The most well known Greek god would be Zeus (leader of the Olympian gods), but which Greek god would be the least well known? Unbeknownst to many people would be the Greek god Crius. He presides over the management of every single constellation and stars in the universe. As the Greek god of heavenly constellations and stars, Crius is in charge of reorganizing the orderly measures or duration of each year. With barely any tales to depict his importance and personality, Crius is shrouded in mystery. Although little is known about him, Crius remains a significant and extraordinary Greek god. He was born from Uranus (a primal Greek god who symbolized the great heaven) and Gaea (a primal Greek goddess who symbolized the Earth). With that being said, he is a part of the first dynasty of Greek gods and goddesses known as titans, which are powerful, colossal gods. In total, Crius has eleven other siblings from the same parents. He has five brothers named Kronos, Iapetus, Hyperion, Oceanus, and Coeus. In addition, Crius has six sisters named Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe, Rhea and Themis all from the same parents. He married his half-sister Eurybia who is the goddess of mastery of the sea. They both come from the same mother, Gaea, but different fathers. Together, they had three children named Astraeus (god of stars and planets), Pallas (god of battle and war craft), and Perses (god of destruction). He is most known for his role in overthrowing his father Uranus and Titanomachy. Together with his four of his brothers, Crius helped in overthrowing Uranus. Crius, Coeus, Lapetus, and Hyperion were led by Cronus to conspire against their father. While each brother seized a hold of Uranus, Cronus proceeded to castrate the sky god with a sickle. After successfully defeating their father, Cronus replaced him as the new ruler while his brother came to represent the cardinal directions or the four cosmic pillars dividing heaven and earth from each other. Crius is the southern pillar, Coeus is the northern pillar, Lapetus is the eastern pillar, and Hyperion is the western pillar. Although Crius didn’t play a major role during Titanomachy (war between titans and gods) he was still cast into the pits of Tartarus by Zeus when the titans lost.
