The well known phrases ¨grease is the word¨, and ¨what team? Wildcats¨ emerged decades apart, yet from almost the same movie. With a twenty eight year age gap between the movies Grease and High School Musical, the differences are impossible to avoid, examples being the way the characters handled their problems. Their respective time periods influence the leading characters, (also called protagonists), Sandra Dee and Danny Zuko in Grease and Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton in High School Musical, each in the way society views women. Randal Kleiser's Grease displayed his love interests meeting and falling in love during the summer. They both believed they would go separate ways at the end of the summer, therefore making the most of their short time together. When Danny told Sandy ¨this is only the beginning¨ ( Kleiser, Randal n.pag.), it foreshadows to the viewer that this is not the end of the road for these two. This proved to be true when Sandy's parents change their plans and decide to permanently relocate from Australia, to Venice California. In a twist of fate, she will now attend Rydell High, the same school that her summer flame Danny Zuko attends. Fate decided the course; destiny chose for Sandy and Danny to be together. Twenty eight years later, a similar chain of events takes place in Kenny Ortega’s teenage love story: High School Musical. Troy Bolton and Gabriella Montez crossed paths at a Colorado ski lodge where they randomly called upon to sing karaoke together at a New Year's party. The chemistry between them, (shown to the left) makes it clear to the viewer that there is something truly special between them. As in Grease, Gabriella’s mother, changed the plans and chose to move the family across the country to Albuquerque, New Mexico, home of the East High Wildcats, and Troy Bolton. Fate, once again, brings the main characters together. In both movies, the protagonists are in the same physical location but must overcome the stereotypes of the time and the peer pressure of high school if they are going to be together as a couple. What makes Grease and Footloose an all-time classic musical film to watch is the way they easily appeal to teenagers then to teenagers now. The catchy tunes, stunning john Travolta in grease, same relatable plots in footloose, along with the wild dance moves in both movies is what makes these two films ironically very similar. Both of the main protagonists in this movie move to new areas, where new influences effect not only their teen romance, yet as well as affect their ability to avoid unwanted people and the sense of being and outsider. However, grease and footloose are taken place in a high school setting where the relationships of each individual is changed due to the social influences brought by their peers. The relatable struggle of peer pressure in today’s society is exactly the same struggles portrayed in the past and in which is shown vividly in these to movies. Peer pressure was inevitable to all the characters; grease showed how the negativity of peer pressure effected Danny and Sandy while Ren and Ariel in footloose showed how peer pressure can have a positive influences throughout their relationship.
The highly anticipated Tv series Scream Queens, premiered on September 22nd. Scream Queens genre is a horror story with minimal comedy. The storyline takes place on campus at Wallace University, in the Kappa Kappa sorority house. The story revolves around the Kappa Kappa pledges and a serial killer loose on campus. The sorority sisters are in danger and determined to find out who the killer is.
Expectations are define as personal belief that something will happen. It’s similar to judgment or assumption people made to a certain person or group of people. It may not be true and it could be different from what is expected. People can also change how they live their lives based on their own expectations just like how the Greasers and the Socs had different expectations. These two groups have contrast expectations that caused bad actions to come up or lead them to benefits for their own group. Expectations may force people into something they are not, even if it is to become a hero or the opposite.
The film that interested me for this assignment was “Boyz n the Hood”. The movie was about a Los Angeles neighborhood expanding of drug and gang culture, with increasingly tragic results. It was about how one teen had family support to guide him on the right path in life regarding the social problems around him. The other two teens in the film wasn’t as fortunate and fell into the social problems of drugs, violence, and gangs; where one ended up dead.

Emporia State Universities Production of this masterpiece was a masterpiece in itself, from the stunningly genuine portrayal of the characters of Avery and Rose, to the realism found within the set, every aspect of the production was superb.
A famous poet by the name of Horace once said, “Life is largely a matter of expectations.” Whether these expectations are produced within or those expressed by others, we go on living the standards of how we are supposed to; no more, no less. In the novel written by S.E. Hinton, “The Outsiders”, groups are often put in roles with specific limitations, some of which they put on themselves, while others were expectations from external sources. Moreover, in this novel conjectures played a major role in day to day situations displayed in the text. Both the Socs and the Greasers had roles with reputations to maintain; whether or not it was a good or bad reputation, they still felt the need to live up to the notions placed on them, both as individuals and as a group.
Legally Blonde the Musical, was a fun filled, musical journey, which warmed the hearts of many within the audience. Main character Elle Woods pursues a law degree in attempt to convince her ex-boyfriend Warner that she can be a well-educated, and respectable women. The performers take the audience on a journey following Elle’s college experience at Harvard Law. As Elle faces many hardships she never backs down, showing the audience what a little determination can get you. The musical ends with an happily ever after as Elle does the unexpected. Winning over the respect from her fellow classmates, as well as many more. Showing that all that hard work does pay off in the end, and might present opportunities that you never expected. Elle Woods finds exactly what she has been looking for all along. Which end up being right in front of her the whole time, love.
