George Washington was born February 22, 1732 into a Virginia farming family that is considered middle class now a days. George Washington’s father, Augustine, who was a leading planter in the area, died when george was eleven. George's mother, Mary, had a hard time holding their home together after the death of her husband. Her two sons from a previous marriage were there to help. Even when he was young, George displayed a gift for mathematics. Even though the highest level of education he received was elementary. His skill with numbers as well as his ambition and social skills, caught the attention of Lord Fairfax, head of one of the most powerful families in Virginia. At the age of sixteen, Lord Fairfax employed George as one of his surveyors. The young George would travel deep into the wilderness for weeks at a time which is one of the reasons why he wasn’t able to finish his education.

George Washington served as Commander in the Chief of the Continental army during the American Revolution and served as President for two terms from 1789-1797. Many argue he was a more exceptional President than a military leader. Many of his greatest military decisions were politically based. Because of him, Congress supported the Revolutionary War. When George resigned as commander and chief, it was said that was his greatest military decision. While President, he angered many Americans and lost many important allies he could have used.

George Washington paved the way for future presidents. He passed down a legacy of strength, integrity and national purpose. ...ries. But he took a strict position in staying neutral with other country conflicts. In 1796, near the end of his second term, Washington declined to serve a third term. Washington finally retired from serving his country. In his farewell address, he urged the new nation to keep involvement with foreign nations to a minimum and to maintain high domestic standards.

Washington was a key role in developing the United States after the Revolutionary War. George Washington is one of the most famous American hero’s, remembered as the 'father of his country'. He is known for being commanding general of the revolutionary army which won American independence. Also for his amazing performance as the first president of the United States. Washington's military and political career is a model of leadership that set the stage for all future military leaders and US presidents.
