George Orwell's Animal Farm

George Orwell’s novel Animal Farm is a satirical fable that illustrates his criticisms towards the society. He uses the novel in the form of a fable to communicate his attitude towards the political system of soviet Russia. “All animals are equal but some are more equal than others.” In this novel, the autocracy, exploited working class, and evolution of the pigs of Animal Farm demonstrate a caricature of the social evolution in Soviet Russia. Orwell uses a circular plot to emphasize the cycle of revolution and the inevitability of dictatorship. He aims to convey that despite the need for improvement, the structure of a society will remain the same if the change is not fundamental. The requirement of leadership and the inevitability of social structure within a society lead to the failure of revolutions in which evolves in a cycle.

“One leader, one people, signifies one master and millions of slaves.” George Orwell’s animal farm depicts a cycle of leadership and dictatorship. Despite the change leaders, the revolution results in the same outcomes with the presence of a leader. The leaders “consume without producing” (P.4, Orwell), all common animals “have no better fate”(P.5, Orwell) and not one common animal own more than their own rations and a stall. Nonetheless, the novel accentuates the role of leadership within a society. Without leadership, the rebellion would not arise. It is apparent that “the whole management and organization of this farm” (P.23, Orwell) depends on the pigs. Orwell indicates the significance of leadership when Boxer “looked at Napoleon to know whether he should crush the dog to death or let it go” during the execution. Although Animal Farm is a parody of the social evolution in soviet Russia, it is still valid today. Animal farm stood the test of time because of its relevance to today’s society. Although socialism has died, his theories are still alive. The novel, portrayed as a political fable reflects the manipulative human nature and the tendency of human nature to classify the society. His criticisms towards the society is portrayed in such a timeless fashion that his concepts are relevant to present day and will most likely be valid to future generations.
