Genocide and the Propaganda Media

To many Americans, the feeling of being a bystander as countries slaughter their own people has been in legal debate since 1933, it has gradually developed into a concept that can be applied in many situations, both historical and contemporary. The meaning of the phrase genocide is the cleansing of a race or ethnicity in a country. There has been evidence that this phrase can be used to describe past and present day massacres being committed around the world and how media has changed its perception on this issue overtime. "Propaganda tries to force a doctrine on the whole people... Propaganda works on the general public from the standpoint of an idea and makes them ripe for the victory of this idea." ( Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf, 1926). During Adolf Hitler’s time, the Jews in Europe were not very well liked. They were doing very well economically because they were prominent bankers and were blamed for the economic problems in Germany because Germans were struggling. He blamed the Jews for the hardships the country was facing. Pamphlets,flyers and flags were put up all over the country that showed Germans that the Jews were being “taken care of”, and caused a bad perspective upon them. Hitlers method of propaganda ranged in variety such as; films, cartoon and even educational material. He used his way of thinking to manipulate change of all Europe to go against the Jewish with the help of Goebbles, the minister of Propaganda and Public Information. In Nazi Germany, it was very dangerous for reporters and press to print the truth because the government controlled what was published. Joseph Goebbles ministered what was shown to the public and controlled the mass media. He along with Hitler had a goal; to “Nazify the art and culture ... ... middle of paper ... ...against underdevelopment and marginalisation in Darfur, neither Turabi’s name not the Islamist involvement has been featured much in the media coverage of the conflict. How the media handles crises can be descriptive; “..the crisis will become front-page, top-of-the-news story. Print and television reporters, photographers and camera people flood the area.” Victims, villains and heroes are created and “the crisis dominates coverage of international news, and for a while even domestic events.” It becomes the focus of debate in congress moral guide to the nation. “The success of that morality play story line rests on the fact that it is easy to understand and appreciate.. The set piece is ideal material for television and superficial print coverage” The superficial and exaggerated press coverage is clear, many news reports have accepted propaganda and are uninspiring.
