The Positive and Negative Aspects of
The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, portrays a very perplexed concept. He speaks about several themes that relate to life today. They are Time, the American Dream, Immorality, the 1920s, and Class that contains money and power. All the themes consist of true integrity and showcase the personality and mentality traits of the characters in this novel. The individuals mentioned in the story are Nick Carraway, Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan, and Tom Buchanan. They all have a role they live up to in society considering class is forever involved in their world.
Having to witness the diversity within the characters, wealth was a big factor in society. It led to be a motivating strength to the people; however, they tried not to lose sight of who they really were. I was influenced and inspired by these quotes that stuck out to me. Nick quoted “No amount of fire of freshness can challenge what a man will store up in his ghostly heart.” (Fitzgerald) There was a state of emotion that was let down. It meant that nothing can match up to his imagination because his expectations were really high. I’ve learned to just lower my expectations and challenge myself of how much a woman can store up in her heart. Another quote stated my Nick was “It never occurred to me that one man could start to play with the faith of fifty million – with the single-mindedness of a burglar blowing a safe.” (Fitzgerald) Nick meant it towards Wolfsheim. Nick thinks Wolfsheim is crazy and has crazy tactics, which get him by with a clean slate. Also it’s mind-blowing because it shows you don’t have to be high class, to profit your wealth.
