Have you ever wondered if buying a gatorade before a game is worth the price or would water just be fine? I have often wondered if getting a gatorade would be worth the money or if just getting water would be fine. I play sports almost every season and always have to decide wether to get a gatorade or just drink the water they gives. I am so think that what makes the gatorade worth buying, is it just for the taste or does it have something that actually helps. I believe that learning more about electrolytes and hydration would be useful to explain which drink would be for me as an athlete during a game. Water is very important for your body. 50% of your body weight is water (“Safe Drinking Water: Tap Water, Bottled Water, & Water Filters.”). …show more content…
When more water leaves the body then comes in, dehydration is occurring ("Safe Drinking Water: Tap Water, Bottled Water, & Water Filters.”). Without the water you need you can’t regulate your body temperature and your body can’t lubricate you joints ("Athletes: The Importance of Good Hydration.”). Being a dehydrated athlete won’t let you preform at your highest level ("Athletes: The Importance of Good Hydration.”). Because being hydrated helps transport nutrients to give you energy and keep your body healthy ("Athletes: The Importance of Good Hydration.”). It may cause you to experience fatigue, muscle cramps, and dizziness ("Athletes: The Importance of Good …show more content…
My hypothesis is that orange juice would be better then Gatorade, because I believe that it would hold more electrolytes. Some material that I will need to figure this out is Digital multimeter, Alligator clip leads, Copper wire, bare, 24-gauge, 9 V battery, 9 V battery clip, and more. I am going test each liquid to see which liquid has more electrolytes, and by knowing that it will help me find out which is better for you. I believe by doing this experiment it will help me see if my hypothesis is right or
It has long been established that both short and long-term exercise increase metabolic rate and heat production. This naturally predisposes participants to dehydration. Typical symptoms of dehydration include elevated temperature, fluid and electrolyte imbalance due to sweating, and loss of critical nutrients, such as glycogen (depleted via metabolic pathways). Many individuals participating in moderate to rigorous training schedules may engage in daily exercise, if not multiple exercise routines in one day (3,4,5,6). It then follows that the goal for these individuals should be avoidance of dehydration and maximization of rehydration through maintenance of electrolyte balance, replenishment of muscle glycogen, and plasma osmolality. Thus, examination of a fluid’s efficacy in these three areas is crucial. Through extensive research, it is evident that Gatorade will rehydrate faster and more effectively than water.
Hydrating is very important to your body's ability to function. Your body must intake water as we constantly let off water as said i pg 1 of ‘Strange but True: Drinking Too Much Water Can Kill’ it states “At every moment water escapes the body through sweat, urination, defecation or exhaled breath, among other routes.” As it's been told that water is good for you and needed no one has ever thought of actually being able to overdue it. When you take in water your kidney stores up to a gallon of water so as to keep you hydrated. In the article mentioned previously it also states in pg 10, “every hour a healthy kidney at rest can excrete 800 to 1,000 milliliters … therefore a person can drink up to 800 to 1,000 milliliters per hour without experiencing a net gain in water”. Therefore your body is built
When one thinks of a society of genetically advanced individuals at first glance it might seem like an advantage, but upon taking a closer look you can see the flaws in these perfect people. The world of Gattaca is superficial and judgmental; the only way to measure the worth of a person is by the wholesomeness of one's blood. They do not know for sure that someone will die or develop a heart condition all they have to work with is a percentage of the chance of it happening. This brands the world of Gattaca as an unfit and inferior world than our own. When a society discriminates against a group of people they lose valuable and productive members of society. In Gattaca the hardest working, most driven person was someone that they thought should
That’s when a spark lit and I started asking questions such as, “What benefits do sports drink have over water or juices?”, “What exactly electrolytes are and how many are in sports drinks?” As a curious 12 year old, I started researching on sports drinks. I discovered electrolytes include potassium, sodium, calcium, and other elements too. As a person perspires he/she loses water and electrolytes in the body. Loss of electrolytes can lead to heat exhaustion, nausea, and other conditions. I continued my research.
...ble in a Gatorade bottle but these are the most important ones. The most chemistry that is present in sports drinks and in this case, Gatorade, is seen through the electrolytes. In a nutshell electrolytes are substances that are soluble in water and after being completely dissolved, they give ions. Our body consists of Cation and Anion electrolytes which are nutritionally referred to as Macrominerals. As stated before the balance level of electrolytes is every crucial for the human body, and if imbalanced the person can have serious and life threatening issues. But the only way to restore our electrolytes level is by consuming these sports drinks, so this is the main reason as for why even though the sports drinks have some negative aspects to them they are one of the cheapest and easiest ways a person can get the required electrolytes for their body.
In my science fair experiment I plan to measure the difference in electrolytes in orange juice and a sports drink. In order to test this I will use a multimeter. I think that people who are working out to their full potential will find it more useful to drink sports drinks after their workout. I believe this because my research shows that the harder you work out the more salts your body loses, sports drinks have a lot of those salts and can replenish them
Which liquids are the best natural hangover cures? Water, vegetable and fruit juices blended down and gulped up by your dry mouth are the best. I could tell you to drink cola too, but you might not consider it natural. Either way, you can find here which drinks are the best remedies for hangovers.
Early summer, about forty-eight years ago in 1965, University of Florida assistant football coach, Dwayne Douglas, sat down and wondered why so many of his players were suffering from heat strokes and heat related illnesses during games or practice. So, he went to the university physicians and asked them to determine why this was happening. Not long after it was discovered that two key factors were causing the Florida Gator players to suffer from these conditions: the fluids and electrolytes the players were losing during the events were not being put back into the body, and the massive amounts of carbohydrates the players' bodies used for energy were not being replenished. So, he decided to create Gatorade. There are plenty of Gurus out there who will sit and tell you that water is natural and it’s the best thing you could ever put into your body, but let’s get real I’ll take scientifically proven research over someone’s “word” any day. There are many different varieties and flavors of gatorade manufactured everyday. Gatorade is mainly dranken by athletes before during or after physical activities for either energy, hydration or recovery. Most athletes drink gatorade to restore electrolytes into their body after playing a sport so that they don't get dehydrated.
It is over a hundred degrees outside, the sun is beating down and sweat is dripping down your face and soaking the back of your shirt. You have been outside doing yard work for a few hours now and have not had any water to drink. What happens to your body when it loses water and you are not replenishing it; dehydration. It may not seem like anything too serious but, in some cases, dehydration can actually cause some serious damage to your body, be life threatening and even cause death. The number of Americans that suffer from dehydration is actually quite high; 75 percent are living in a constant state of chronic dehydration. This means that for a substantial period of time their body has been without the correct amount of water that it requires to maintain and keep itself healthy. So what exactly is dehydration? It is a “condition that occurs when the loss of body fluids, mostly water exceeds the amount of fluid that is taken in.” (WebMd) The human body carries an amount of water that ranges anywhere from fifty to seventy-five percent depending on your age, gender and weight.” (Helmenstine) Our body must have water to function properly. While water is the ideal liquid, any liquid, and even some foods with high water content, will help keep the body hydrated, healthy and thriving. Just like a flower that needs water every day, so does the human body.
To find the answer we performed an experiment. We decided to put the drinks to the test by exercising, and then seeing how well we shoot 10 free throws. But after we exercised we drank either Powerade or Gatorade. We would then collect data, analyze it, and ultimately find out which drink is more effective. When I finished working out on Day 1, I drank Gatorade. I made 8/10. On Day 2, I drank Powerade after exercising and shot 7/10. And since the results were very similar I decided I would exercise and shoot 10 more on Day 3. But instead of drinking a sports drink I just drank water. I made 7/10. This data was very interesting. It shows Gatorade improved performance more, but nothing really stood out. So unless you plan on running a marathon or other strenuous athletic tasks, it will not really matter if you drink Powerade or Gatorade. Our experiment even showed, no matter how many fancy sports drinks come out, water is always a very reliable option when it comes to regaining lost
Before every workout, or any physical activity in which we engage in, people always look for a liquid to drink to help replace all the fluid that our body used to control body temperature, supply oxygen and nutrients to our working muscles and dispose of waste, through the perspiration process. Yet, when it comes to choosing our prefered drink, someone may be stuck between choosing the flavorful sports drink or the pure natural water that our body is comprised of. When analyzing all the evidence, it is quite apparent that although our body is mainly comprised of water, in the diet of a high school athlete, such as I, it is good to include sports drinks due to certain benefits that it supplies such as its ingredients of sodium, electrolytes,
In this experiment I will be finding out which fruit juice contains the most vitamin C. I will be using a method similar to titration but I will be using a syringe instead of a burette.
Drinking more water will keep people healthy and energized, by just drinking a cup a day.
Water is an essential nutrient that our body requires every day. Without water human life cannot be sustained. Water deprivation kills faster than lack of any other nutrient. People do not think of water as a nutrient and don’t realize the important role of water in the body functions.
