Garibaldi's Speech in 1860 There are many significant events and victories that surround
Garibaldi’s speech that was made in Naples. The year of 1860 proved
to be a very important year for Garibaldi and the people of Italy. It
is the year that the individual states of Italy were brought to
unification and existed as one country. It was agreed at the “Peace
of Villafranca, signed between Austria and France, that Lombardy would
be given to Sardinia and that an Italian Confederation could be formed
under the presidency of the Pope. The rulers of Parma, Modena and
Tuscany, overthrown during the war, were to be restored to their
states.” (Tankard, 2002) The Kingdom of Sardinia annexed Parma,
Modena, Tuscany and Romagna. Garibaldi wanted the rest of Italy
conquered, therefore he set out with his army. In Sicily they were
able to gain control quite easy. Then he set out to Naples to conquer
it. A great battle was fought in Volturno against the Austrian King
Ferdinand II who fled and surrendered Naples to Garibaldi. This was
the last place that Garibaldi and his army conquered. The conquer of
Naples is a significant event because the “overthrow of the Kingdom of
Naples, the event which precipitated Italian unification.” (Mortimer,
1999).
Giuseppe Garibaldi was born in 1807 in the costal city of Nice,
present day Italy. As a young boy he spend most of his time at sea.

In 1775, the American colonists were faced with a question that would lead to everlasting consequences on their newly developing nation. Due to the several unjust taxes Great Britain had forced them to pay, colonial America was torn into two. Those who sided with Great Britain became known as loyalists; however, those believed the colonies should declare independence became known as the patriots. Patrick Henry, a passionate American patriot, advocates to declare war upon the tyrannical nation of Great Britain in the speech “Speech in the Virginia Convention” that he delivers to the delegates at the Virginia Convention. Many children, including myself, have once played the game Marco Polo. Although, I have always been curious, who exactly is Marco Polo? My fascination of Marco Polo warped into a fixation of his travels. Marco Polo was born in Venice in the year 1254. His father, Nicolo, and his uncle, Maffeo, were merchants who had seats in the great nobleman council of Venice (Polo IV). According to his records, he had traveled thousands of miles with his father and uncle.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading national public health institute in the United States, illuminates to the world, “ In 2013, a total of 273,105 babies were born to women aged 15 – 19 years [in the US]” (About Teen Pregnancy). Although the statistic was taken in 2013, the relevance of it, to this day, is monumental. If an individual hears of a teen pregnancy, compared to the past, it would have little to no effect. For example, The Scarlet Letter, written by Nathanial Hawthorne in 1850, follows the life of a woman, who happens to be a mother, while she hides herself in shame, withdrawn from society because she has a child. The novel’s views juxtaposed with today’s views on teen pregnancies are substantially different.
The Life of Garibaldi Giuseppe Garibaldi was born in Nice, France in 1807. He spent most of his youth as a sailor on Mediterranean merchant ships. In 1883 he joined Young Italy, the movement organised by the Italian revolutionary Giuseppe Mazzini. He believed that all Italian people should be free and that Italyshould not only be independent, but also an integrated republic. Italyhad been left completely fragmented by the settlements reached at Congress of Vienna in 1815.
Italo Calvino was born in 1923 in Santiago de Las Vegas, Cuba. He then moved to Italy with his family were he was raised and lived most of his life. Italo joined the Italian Resistance during World War II and when the war ended he settled in Turin, and earned his degree in literature. Italo worked as an editor for the Communist periodical L'Unità and for the publishing house of Einaudi. He also went on to write more Italian fantasy books other then the Baron in the Trees, he wrote a total of nineteen short stories. Italo Calvino died in September of 1985, in Siena Italy.
At the beginning of the 1890’s, America saw immigration from the South of Italy. This was due to impoverished life in Italy. In 1860, Garibaldi drove a revolution in Italy to create a unified country. He fought to unify the country, freedom from the Austrians. The south of Italy was over taxed, poverty was ramp it, and people were in despair. These conditions created the exodus from Italy to America.

How can a speech gain complete resonance, or agreement from its audience in a short amount of time? Abraham Lincoln's most famous speech was a great example for gaining the audience's spirits. ''The Gettysburg Address'' was given on November 19, 1863, after the Union won the Battle of Gettysburg. In the speech, Lincoln emphasized the importance and necessity of the Civil War, which was, in his point of view, still worth fighting, despite the horrors of the war. Lincoln did not only argue for his point straightforwardly and list several reasons to support it, but also skillfully apply to audience's rising patriot emotion along with the speech. At the end os the speech, Lincoln successfully gave his audience the passion to keep on fighting the Civil War. By building up his audience's loyal and intensity feelings as well as the speech's climax at the same time, Lincoln's strong argument and expression let people realize and remember what was worth them to fight, the Union. By fully gaining people's minds and attention, Lincoln heartened his audience, touched their deep emotion, and won his audience's resonances with him and his idea that this war is still worth fighting.
The name Marco Polo isn’t just famous for the child's water game. Marco Polo is one of the most famous travelers and traders in history. In my paper, I will discuss his historic travels and his life. Marco Polo was born around 1254, most likely in Venice, Italy. He died at about 70 years of age in 1324 after a full life, well lived. Marco Polo was a Venetian explorer well-known for his merchant travels and the famous book Description of the World, which tells the story of his travels, experiences and adventures in Asia.
In the early years of the twentieth century, Italy has created a new system of government, however suffered social and economic conditions. Improvements were made however, poverty and literacy were still problems that have not been solved well. While entering World War I, the nation was neutral up until joining the British and French in exchange for certain advantages. However, it was unsuccessful as Italy failed to take control of the territories that it claimed at the Versailles Peace Conference,and suffered significant losses. The ideology of fascism occurred when the power of Italy was shrinking and the idea of being a pacifist became weak. Benito Mussolini created a group of fascists to represent a means to stop the socialists and the communists coming into his nation.
