The summary of this fictional novel begins with a 16 year old, protagonist, named Starr Carter. Starr grew up in a poverty-stricken slum of Garden Heights with her parents to two brothers, Seven and Sekani, but attends a suburban prep school at Williamson near Riverton Hill. Her Uncle Carlos, a policeman, also lives in Riverton Hills. She has a white boyfriend that her father doesn’t know about and is afraid of telling him. She is a party in her neighborhood, Garden Heights, run she runs into Khalil Harris, an old friend from childhood. As they catch up, gunshots were heard and they flee the party. Violence broke out in Garden Heights, businesses are destroyed and looted,cop cars burned, police lob gear throw tear gas into the crowd. Seven, Starr, and her boyfriend find Ms.Ofrah protesting, who then gave Starr the megaphone. Starr gives a powerful speech to the police and the crowd about Khalil’s death. But now everyone is choking on tear gas until one of Maverick’s friends picks them up to take them to Maverick’s corner store safely. It's not safe for long when suddenly the store is filled with smoke,as some opens the door and tosses a burning bottle inside. As the kids struggle inside Maverick and a neighbor rescue them as the store burns. While King and his gang laugh the police came on the scene. The neighbors come together to declare the fire was caused by King, despite the banning in the community against “snitching”. King gets arrested for arson. Hailey reaches out to Starr to tell her she feels bad but Starr decide to end their friendship for good. The second part of the novel starts with being asked to take on a new case known as Operation Black Biscuit. The idea of this case was to make an attempt at successfully infiltrating the Hells Angels. Jay meets his new team, a long time friend, William “Timmy” Long, an ex-biker now informant, “Pops”, and a confidential informant named Rudy Kramer. When Jay takes on this new case, he becomes even more separated from his family. This makes me feel disgust because Jay’s family had given so much to him for him to give very minimal in return. Not being able to spend time with family is one of the worst things in the world and Jay becomes so set on becoming a Hells Angel and living the life of Jay “Bird” Davis, that he forgets that outside of work he is still Jay Dobyns.
At first the third gangster refused to provide answers, but seeing his fellow gang members lying helpless on the ground, the gas drench teen now realized he was alone to face Teddy. The terrified teen started to cooperate and provide answers even though they weren’t helpful to Teddy, trying to prove to him that the 0-1-0’s weren’t responsible for the murder. Teddy’s strong sense of pride prevented him from believing the truthful gangster. While beginning to ignite his lighter, Teddy’s plan was unexpectedly foiled by the convenience store owner who came outside to inspect the screaming, and warn Teddy he had informed the police. Within minutes Teddy was taken into custody, and charged with multiple offenses.

The protagonist is Aja Houston. She grew up in Middletown Delaware. She was the oldest out of three daughters. She considered herself the "experimental “child. Her parents were very young when they started a family. Her mother struggled to graduate high school because she got pregnant with Aja and biological father never step up and decided to stay in the streets collecting drug money. Houston was very lucky that at age two her mother found the man of her dreams and he was said to be one of the greatest gifts god had given her. She had a very special bond with her beautiful mother she was her first child, who she had raised alone for two years with the support of her mother and grandmother. This past semester I read the book Slam by Walter Dean Myers. The setting is in a run down part of town in a big city that was un-ginven. The story line is that Slam the main character is going to a new school that is a white school where he once went to a predominately was black and so is he. He is a senior going into a new school because of his grades; he also came from a school where he was one of the best basketball players. His friend was the best player for his old school. He also has a girl that he likes and the start going out. His dad does not work well not all the time his grandma is dying. The main characters are Slam, Goldy.
Jaycee is just your average girl at the beginning of the story. She never imagined that she would reveal one of the darkest secrets in Lake Ridge by simply trying to figure out who killed her ex-best friend. The police make it clear that they are not on her or her partner Eduardo’s side. When you are trying to solve a murder mystery for someone who has darker skin and may have connections to a gang, you aren’t as equal as the white christian community. So, without the help of the police Jaycee has to try and figure out all of these little pieces of evidence that lead to the unsuspected conclusion that solves the mystery. Her and Eduardo eventually piece the clues together to figure out who really killed Rachel. With all of the bits of evidence that Jaycee finds throughout the story, she is eventually able to figure it out by questioning Evan Cross, who the reader soon finds out knows all the answers. “And when she kept looking, you killed her?’ He nods. ‘It wasn’t supposed to go that far, she wasn’t supposed to get hurt--’ He stops, realizing he’s said too much. ‘Except that she did,’ I finish for him (Wolf 309). Jaycee was the one who initially got all of the answers out in the public, not the police, nor the investigators, which directly makes this book a cozy. Along with this idea, this mystery book is also a Noir. Jaycee thinks that she can trust certain people, but her word is completely turned upside-down when she learns the real truth. This book really teaches you that no matter what you think, you really can’t trust anyone, except for the ones that stick with you even after they said you’re on your own. Soon after her fourteenth birthday, Lily escapes to the Boatwright sisters’ house in Tiburon, South Carolina, with Rosaleen, who is arrested for assaulting a white man. Upon her arrival, Lily faces different racist situations and meets her first love, a handsome black boy named Zach. The novel The Secret Life of Bees demonstrates that although racism has a negative impact on everyday life, it also influences Zach and Lily’s development in a positive manner.

The main character in this story is Cassie Logan. She and her three brothers go through an extremely tough time in this story. They go through everything from racist driven petty things to the death of a friend. Cassie's age contributes a lot to this story. Since Cassie is about 10 years old she doesn't fully understand everything that happens and why they happen. This book is written in first person so the reader knows her thoughts and feelings, but not everyone else's. This provides a better grasp on Cassie's inner conflicts.

The obvious theme of the story is crime and mystery, however as a reader when reading beyond, it is realizable this story is not only based on finding the true evil. This novel consists of another theme which is decision-making, and friendship. In this novel, it is conspicuous the theme is crime due to the doings of the characters and the direction the author is leading the readers. Nevertheless, Collin has to make some difficult decisions in order to save himself as well has his new friendship with Alyssa. From Colin's perspective, we come to realize Alyssa is a beautiful female and him, as any young teenage boy feels once they get to know a beautiful girl, wants to help her out and become her Romeo. In this situation, Collin manages to give a hand to Alyssa often enough, at this point Alyssa begins to trust Collin furthermore. Alyssa now reveals to Colin as to why she vandalizes the posts he’s been cleaning daily. Following this event, Colin has to make a crucial decision, Colin has to reveal to the police the doings of the gang, however, all at once he has to make sure the gang does not find out Alyssa went to the cops or else Alyssa’s brother will face an unwanted life or death situation. This situation may not be something all teenagers are facing or even most, but this scenario does reflect upon other situations teenagers at this present time have to face. Being caught in between doing the right thing and helping your friend is a common situation most teenagers tend to face at this moment. Most teenagers tend to head in the route of their friend, however, this plot clearly portrays there is always a way around the obstacles. This book is about two greasers named Bryon and Mark. Mark whose parents died when he was a young age went to live with Bryon. This book is in first person, and takes place behind the eyes of Bryon. The book first starts out by introducing the other characters in the novel: Charlie, a bartender who allows Mark and Bryon to come in to his bar, but wont let them buy booze. M&M a small longhaired child who always seems to be munching on M&Ms, and he lends Bryon and Mark money all the time. After their rendezvous with M&M the boys visit their mother in the hospital, and while their Bryon meets Cathy who is M&Ms sister who just came back from medical school. After a conversation, Bryon invites Cathy to go on a date with him, and Cathy accepts. Soon Bryon talks Mark into double dating with him, then he proceeds to borrow Charlie’s car. The next night Angela, who is Bryon’s ex sends someone to attack him, and who ends up attacking Mark. Mark is sent to the hospitable, but recovers in a day or two. The story then resumes with Bryon continuing to date Cathy, and Mark seems to become more and more jealous. One night Mark, Bryon, Cathy, and M&M decide to drive up and down the Ribbon to get M&M cheered up because his dad was ridiculing him for his long hair. The Ribbon is a long stretch of road that teens hang out. While driving along M&M gets out and walks away with a group of other long haired children, but because you cant stop on the ribbon on a green light all they could do is watch him go away. For the next few days Cathy and Bryon are searching the Ribbon while Mark mysteriously brings in large sums of money to pay for his mothers hospitable bill. Bryon notices this, but never asked Mark where he is getting the money. The next day Mark says he might know where M&M is. Mark discloses a hippy hangout, and that is where Mark goes, but without Cathy. Bryon finds that M&M had been there, but was not around that day. The next day Bryon and Cathy go to the hangout and find M&M, and he was really bad.
