Gangs have become one of the most serious crime problems in the United States. Gangs have been around in the United States for a long time. Gangs "Once found principally in large cities, violent street gangs now affect public safety, community image, and quality of life in communities of all sizes in urban, suburban, and rural areas. No region of the United States is untouched by gangs. Gangs affect society at all levels, causing heightened fears for safety, violence, and economic costs” (2005 National Gang Threat Assessment, National Alliance of Gang Investigators Associations, 2005). I believe that going into the Human Services career there should be help for these gang members that are trying to get their life back to normal or gangster who are getting out of prison. Having job options for these gangsters and giving them an opportunity to reestablish themselves in the community and not discriminating them because of their past can make a change in their life and we can help them become a better American. Sometime people that have a bad history think that it’s over and that they have to carry the stigma of their past but I believe that there is hope and that everyone does have the right to a new beginning and an opportunity. Sometimes in life we don’t make the right decision but learning from our mistakes or from someone past can make a difference in someone life if they are ready to change. I think that nobody is ever a bad or evil person I think that people make the wrong decisions and sometimes those are the decisions that can haunt you for the rest of our life. I remember when my professor asked what population you would not like to work with in my mind I said I definitely would not like to work with gangs. After doing this research I believe that I am capable of working with this population learning the history, and understanding what is the motives the join the gangs have made me understand gangsters why they make that
