¬ The Catholic Church and science share a messy historical relationship. At first any thought or opinion that contradicted the church was put to death or quieted. An example of this is Galileo Galilei. Galileo, around the 17th century began offering observations that supported Copernicus’s theory that the earth revolves around the sun and that earth wasn’t stationary. The Inquisitions saw these observations as directly contraindicating the scriptures and summoned Galileo to Rome to answer questions about charges that were brought against him by the Inquisition.
