Recommended: Challenges college students face

Reflecting back on all the experiences I have gained in Freshman Seminar, I have discovered many aspects of myself that I wouldn’t have noticed if it weren’t for this class. Through all the PCE Projects, reflections, class service project, outing, and group discussions, I have learned valuable information about campus life and the history surrounding Oxford College of Emory University. Due to the experiences aforementioned, I have discovered that I am here at Oxford College of Emory University because I sought a college that had a welcoming small community with caring professors and peers; that would aid me in reaching my goals. Helping out in the Highland games at the arts and craft center made me happy when children would want to decorate a picture frame or make their own flag. Similarly, PCE Project H reveals that I am person who is organized and structured when it comes to reaching my goals. When making my blueprint of a house, I laid out my goals of wanting to become a pharmaceutical scientist, travel the world, and leave college with a high grade point average. These goals are important to me because I can pursue a career that I am fascinated by, and experience the different cultures in various countries. These goals stem from my core values. My values include family, friends, love, knowledge, responsibility, and respect. Considering my actions and choices regarding certain matters are founded on my values, my values are important because they are the things that matter the most to me. One decision that was made because of my values was my choice to attend Oxford College of Emory University. Since Oxford College of Emory University is a caring, diversified, and respectful community, I felt at home. This college doesn’t have students who stereotype about one’s gender or race, and doesn’t judge one because of their beliefs.     During this College Composition course, I came across numerous obstacles and educational involvements. Every factor of this course contributed to my overall learning experience. For starters, we often read out of our textbooks, “The Little Seagull Handbook” and “They Say I Say”. These books helped showcase proper writing techniques. In addition, we would have class discussions that everyone would participate in. This opened my eyes to different viewpoints that could influence my writing. I recall one class we had a debate over a topic and everyone had to choose a side to argue. We were told to read our paper out loud to our partner. Although personally I am quiet and dislike reading out loud, I found this very helpful. Instantly, my partner and I could find grammar mistakes that one may not pick up on while reading silently. Then we could also talk about other possible revisions for my paper. For every paper, we would have conferences with the professor. This was effective as well to have a professional giving corrections and ideas.
