Today, people in the United States are facing a big challenge: being drowned in student debts. The majority of people agree that, due to the high cost of tuition, the large amount of people can’t afford higher education at all. However, some still debate about the importance of free college education. Stephen Krason argues in the article, “What’s Wrong with Guaranteeing a Free College Education?” about the problems of guaranteeing free higher education at colleges and universities:

“federally guarantee free college tuition holds every promise of not only being an albatross for taxpayers and an incredible economic drain but making worse in multiple ways the whole struggling enterprise of American higher education.” (398)

It would be very reasonable and fair for our government to offer free higher education to all students that are admitted to a university but can’t afford paying tuition fees. The three reasons why college education should be free of charge are because free college education will contribute to our entire country by providing equal opportunity for aspiring students, improving our economy, and increasing technological innovation.
Majority of people agree that a college should be free and equal for everyone, despite a person’s status. In today’s economy, more than average students going into college show some concern with how to pay for college. Community college students also struggle not only to student loans, tuition fees, but other costs such as books, rooms, transportation, supplies. In the article, Mike Konczal states that “seventy percent of graduates have student debt, with average debt load of over $25.000 for those who graduate from public colleges” (2). Innovation is the key of America’s future. America is one of the top innovation countries. Unites States needs to reinforce the strength in global leadership in science and technology. Society would be able to contribute their talents, try new ideas if they don’t stick with low-wage job or stuck with students’ loans and many problems will disappear. Free college education will help students to focus more on actual learning than worrying about money. As it mentions in the article, “It’s Time to Push for Free College,” “A college degree is a pathway for a stable life” (Page, Clawson). Colleges and universities full of smart and creating people. Academically gifted students become the engineers and leaders of life-changing ideas. It’s crucial for people to understand and generate new solutions to the major social, political, economic, and environmental concerns that face today’s society. Students continuous improvement and innovation can develop break-through ideas and products. New sustaining and disruptive innovation will spark and advance our economy.
