Who is Fred Hollows?
Frederick Cossom or “Fred” Hollows was an eye doctor, who sought to be of assistance to others. He spent his life aiding those who weren’t capable of affording, or accessing, basic eye care. He was someone who strived to end avoidable blindness and improve the wellbeing of Aboriginal Australians who were suffering from some of the worse eye diseases that he had ever seen. Due his great desire to lend a hand to others, he did just that. He raised money to build lens factories in Eritrea and Nepal, to reduce the cost of cataract operations from hundreds of dollars to just $25. He was also entitled “Australian of the Year” in 1990 for the lengths he would go to simply just to help another.
What is their message/teaching?

Personally, I feel that this message is one that holds great significance. The reason as to why I feel this way is since this particular message is someone related to all of humankind. When gazing upon society nowadays, conflict, and agony is something, you can immediately describe the world that us Homo sapiens all live in. It’s a world where one action, one word, can start a fire that will continue to burn until it removes everything from sight. Simply looking after someone, can become that someone’s strength to move on and will be what keeps them from bringing hatred and conflict. In order to rid what he considered wrong – poor communities unable to obtain basic eye care- he decided to generate the foundation known as the “Fred Hollows Foundation.” The Fred Hollows Foundation is a non-profit aid organization based in Australia, whose intention is to fight for change, look after the wellbeing of the Indigenous, empower communities, treat, and prevent blindness and other vision issues.

For my movie review I chose the movie “Simon Birch”. Dr. Paul Farmer’s vocation is providing healthcare to those less fortunate. He medically treats the Haitians for TB. Paul devoted his whole life to helping the Haitians with their healthcare problems and living conditions. He gave them proper medicine and was able to do this through global fundraising and fighting the large pharmaceutical companies. But unfortunately, with this came sacrifice. Paul had to stay in Haiti for months at a time; he was unable to see his wife and kids. Because of this, his wife eventually left him. But Paul was so devoted in his work in Haiti it appeared he did not care about his personal life because Paul’s work was his life. With a bold, yet pragmatic vision, Orbinski is unconcerned with seemingly intractable problems of finding drugs for the poorest AIDS victims. The book illustrates his desire to get the job done without bravado and grand statements. Although the book was painful to read, it takes he reader to the extreme of human suffering. Nevertheless, it also inspires with its reflections of humanitarianism and the ingenuity brought to its implementation. It is heartening to know James Orbinski can inspire students in both the arts and sciences as they set out on their careers. Since after all he’s seen, Orbinski remain optimistic, not cynical, and committed to action. Do give this book to any students in your life, after you have read it yourself.

Maybe those heart broken mothers an fathers should not expect to see their children’s deaths as useful. Maybe those orphaned babies should not be given false hope that one day they will be able to go to school without hearing gun shots as if birds were chirping.

What I done this weekend was really fun I went on a trip to dale hollow with my nana and papa when we went down there we sat around the fire and talked.We talked about mostly everyday stuff like school and different kinds of stuff I got out my clarinet to look if anything was wrong with it there wasn’t anything except for the pads that shut the sound holes. But I had myself a really good time down there. On our way there we stopped at some yard sell and I got a clarinet that was in pretty good good shape them things are usually about 300 to 400 dollars that's a lot of money I paid 20 dollars for three clarinets this guy was selling them.
