There has been a major issue with welfare abuse in todays society. The primary issue, I want to address is food stamp abuse. The food stamp abuse occurred to me just recently when I was at Walmart and saw a lady trade another lady cash for the use of her food stamp card. Then I visited my sister in law, Aimy, who gets food stamps and asked her about this. She informed that yes, people do trade there benefits for cash all the time. However, she would never trade her food stamps for cash, because she enjoys eating well. After Aimy said that I was quite confused. Eating well what did that mean? She then went on telling me how there are not any stipulations of what kind of food you can purchase with food stamps. Aimy buys sodas, prime rib, steak, potato chips and candy. How is that fair that her household can eat luxurious meals while I'm lucky to feed my family steak once a month and my tax dollars are paying for her SNAP assistance. I found my self aggravated. I believe having to show proof of identification could stop food stamp abuse by only allowing the correct party the benefits are meant for. Some people trade their EBT card for cash, I have heard the going rate is fifty cents a dollar. Which is ridiculous. I think that a valid proof of identification at every transaction will put a stop to the trading of food stamps for cash . Proof of identification is required when writing a check, or paying with a credit card. So how come proof of identification isn’t required when using EBT cards. Maybe they could have a picture printed on the back of the EBT cards to help with identity issues. I do know that one requirement to use EBT cards is having a pin number, which is a good requirement. However, it's very easy to hand over the EBT card and pin number to let someone else use their food
