Fly in Fly Out is a performance which leaves the audience with an extended knowledge especially focusing on countless issues surrounding upheaval and movement in the community in Mining towns in Australia. Mining towns in Australia suffer from a multitude of issues, such as many leaving the community and also new people joining the community. These issues can cause relationships between families and communities to fall apart. Written and produced by DeBase Productions, the production skilfully uses conventions of realism, elements of drama, and acting skills to portray the intended dramatic meaning of the production. Fly in Fly out successfully looks at how communities and families deal with upheaval, and how we strive to adapt.

The character of Angie is created through the strong use of acting skills such as posture and voice. The actress slouches, embodying the character of a lazy 12 year old, and heightens the pitch of her voice, ultimately making herself seem younger. She also mumbles, getting across the characterisation of a 12 year old girl. The young energy used to create Angie’s character consequently expresses the dramatic meaning of the production, communicating how the youngest child in the family has dealt with the upheaval of losing her mother. She adapts to her environment, becoming a lazy, misbehaved child, mirroring the people around her, like footy boy Chris.
