Everybody thinks that every First Nations tribe gets along together. They never argue with each other or the chief. But here is a story about one tribe from the northern Ontario Cree community of Attawapiskat in Canada who didn't get along with each other at all.
It all started when the government of Canada gave this tribe a load of money to do whatever needed to help and upgrade their tribe. You see, this tribe was trying to get as modern as it could get while still maintaining their religious beliefs. But, this tribe started arguing about what to upgrade in the tribe with the money. One third of the tribe wanted the housing to be upgraded because their houses were in dire need of an overhaul. The men wanted the housing to be upgraded so they wouldn’t need to upgrade it themselves. The women and children wanted the housing to be upgraded so they have a clean living environment. Another third of the tribe wanted the health system to be upgraded. These people who wanted the health system upgraded were mostly women with some children and men. The women wanted the health system to be upgraded because they didn’t want to take care of the children and/or men when they got sick. The children and men wanted the health system to be upgraded because they did not want to get sick. The last third of the tribe wanted the education system to be upgraded. The last third of the tribe wanted the education system to be upgraded. This last third was mostly children and some men and women. The children wanted the education system to be upgraded because if they do leave the tribe, they can get a good job.
