Film Review of Medicine Man
This movie brings together many different character personalities. But
in the end this happens to work out in a good way. The doctor, being
Dr. Campbell, was a really smart man that came to the jungle and
joined the tribe. While being there for awhile he was known as the new
nickname. Why? Because he gave a child Alka Seltzer and made him fell
better. The other medicine man was not very happy with Dr. Campbell
because that was his own position that he took as the real medicine
man. But eventually there was a child that was really sick and when
they were searching through the jungle looking for the other medicine
man he met up with him. Dr. Campbell was summoned to a fight. But the
only way that that child was going to get better was to have Dr.
Campbell let the medicine man win the fight. Which he did, and the
medicine man helped.
Like I said before there are some different personalities being
clashed together. The woman, being Crane was sent to the jungle to
help Dr. Campbell with the cancer cure research. These two characters
did not get along well at all during the first half of the movie. But
they got along better after they started agreeing on the same things
pertaining to the research. They used guinea pigs to study for the
cancer. They would give them cancer and study them then give them some
serum for the cure and see what happened. The two researchers started
to get along when Crane and they started trusting each other. Also
during the end of the movie when the logging crew came in and beat up
Dr. Campbell and then they started a forest fire that destroyed acres
of land. They fell in love then so now on they are both living in the
jungle together.
The character I liked the most was Crane. She didn't care what people
thought of her own opinion and I liked that. Then Dr.Campbell was not
believing in her and she was getting really mad and stressed out.
I often ask myself, “Can I handle it?” I learned from other doctors that in order to provide the best care, a physician must be able to detach himself or herself from the patient; they say it would be better for both the doctor and the patient. But, with that kind of thinking, the doctor is not fully giving himself to the patient. So, is it right to not fully give oneself to care for the patient? Learning from Patrick Dismuke and those who loved him, it seemed that the hospital was able to care for him best by loving him. Nurse Kay, Patrick’s favorite nurse, not only answered his late night calls, but enjoyed talking with him. This always calmed Patrick down before and/or after surgery. Dr. Aceves was always optimistic and hopeful for the future of Patrick’s health, never giving up on him by pushing for surgery. He did this because he knew Patrick all 16 years and was emotionally attached to the boy, even though Patrick did not feel the same way. Thus, though I can understand that a physician must put a wall between himself or herself and the patient, there should still be a strong connection in which they would do anything for the patient’s comfort and
Grant successfully managed to treat Mr. G she comes to the realization that a doctor should not judge a patient no matter how they may act, as each patient may have a reason for acting the way they do. Dr. Grant has managed to learn how to combine her own personal experience with her doctoral skills she had learned in medical schools. Dr Grant believes. “ …[A]fter twenty-eight years of schooling, my education continues, both inside and outside the classroom” ( 183). Mr. G was the key figure in changing Dr. Grants judgement. If Mr. G had not shed light onto why he was in the hospital and how he felt stripped of his freedom to Dr. Grant she probably would have just branded him as crazy, she probably would have done the same to similar patients. As Dr. Grant states, “ … I was proud of myself for having accomplished my task… I was proud of myself because I had decided not to prejudge Mr. G” (182). Mr. G exposing his true emotions to Dr. Grant was the reason that she learned that she should not judge unique patients but instead, she should try to communicate with them and better understand so she can better help

In the medical community there appears to be a divide between disease-centered care and patient-centered care. Both Charon and Garden, readily acknowledge this. Charon explains how although doctors can boast in their “impressive technical progress,” and “their ability to eradicate once fatal infections,” doctors often lack the abilities to recognize the pain of their patients and to extend empathy (3). Charon further adds that “medicine practiced without a genuine and obligating awareness of what patients go through [empathy] may fulfill its technical goals, but it is an empty medicine, or, at best, half a medicine” (5). Often, doctors fail to remember that their patients are more than just a person with cancer or a congenital heart defect — they are human, a whole person with dreams, aspirations, and fears. knew that she didn't love him, but still proceeded to commit the rest of his life to her. Consequently, a story of forbidden passion, hatred, and jealousy unfolds.
As the story begins, the unnamed doctor is introduced as one who appears to be strictly professional. “Aas often, in such cases, they weren’t telling me more than they had to, it was up to me to tell them; that’s why they were spending three dollars on me.” (par. 3) The doctor leaves the first impression that he is one that keeps his attention about the job and nothing out of the ordinary besides stating his impressions on the mother, father and the patient, Mathilda. Though he does manage to note that Mathilda has a fever. The doctor takes what he considers a “trial shot” and “point of departure” by inquiring what he suspects is a sore throat (par. 6). This point in the story, nothing remains out of the ordinary or questionable about the doctor’s methods, until the story further develops.
In the first three episodes of the series Mad Men the main character Don Draper works for a company that creates ads, in the 1960’s, his boss at this company is Rodger Sterling. In the first episode the company that Draper works for is trying to come up with an ad that convinces people that cigarettes are not bad for people’s health. Don Drapper is a high up executive ad man at the company he works for and is trying to find new clients to create ads for. Peggy Olsen, another main character is just starting at the company as Don Drapper’s new secretary. Betty Draper is Don Draper’s wife, they have two kids together. Peter Campbell is a 26 year old up and coming sales man for the same company and works alongside Don Draper. In episode two the company is trying to come up with an ad for right guard spray deodorant. Also Betty Draper is having problems with maintaining control of her
