The movie I chose to write about is called “The Maze Runner” It is about a group of children that get dropped off inside a maze. When they wake up they have no memory of who took them there, or why they are there; They call this place “The Glades.” A new person randomly appears each month to try and pass a test which they are unaware of at the time. The runners are the children that have to find a way out of the maze. Some of the people have been trying to get out of the maze for three years. After some time they have a few memories that become clear. The people that brought them hear call themselves “Wicked.” Alby is considered an elder, because he has been there the longest. The film was about a group of people trying to survive the night against an undead horde. It first showed us a brother and a sister, Barbra and Johnny. They are visiting their father’s grave. Johnny rants about how this is a waste of time and acts very poorly in the cemetery. They are attacked by a zombie and Barbra leaves Johnny behind. She finds a farmhouse and runs inside, hiding from the zombie. Soon after, she goes outside and a new character named Ben is introduced. He helps board up the entire house to hold out for the night. He routinely lit things on fire and threw them in front of the porch, keeping the zombies at bay. Ben tried asking Barbra questions but she was no help. She wouldn’t talk about anything or explain her story to Ben. After barring up the windows and doors they are safe for some time. Now the rest of the characters are introduced,
The two movies I chose to watch this week was “The Road to El Dorado” and “The Emperor's New Groove” as my choice of animated films to analyze. The animated film, “The Road to El Dorado” stereotypical representations of race, ethnicity, gender and sexuality are added in children’s films. I see sexuality played out most of the time in these Disney films. There is only one woman, and her name is Chel. There are many single female characters in otherwise male dominated movies who are portrayed as sexy. It is unfortunately very common and reinforces the idea of women as tokens, and the audience will not find stories interesting unless their focus is men’s issues and lives. Gone with the Wind is a classic fictional love story that depicts life in the old south before, during and after the Civil war. The book was originally written in 1936 by Margret Mitchell, the movie adaptation was released in 1939, directed by Victor Fleming, and staring Clark Gable and Vivian Leigh. Ms. Mitchell grew up listening to Civil war stories from confederate veterans. It was reported that they told her everything; everything that is, except that they had lost the war, she found that out when she was 10 years old. Though the book was written 71 years after the Civil War ended, Ms. Mitchell did her research and appears to have drawn inspiration from those childhood stories that she was told. This is apparent in the detailed description of the clothing, houses, and everyday discussions and interactions of the characters throughout the book. Though not all historically correct most of what is in the book is accurate. During the time the movie was released, “damn” was considered to be vulgar and controversial and they used the term “darkies” to describe the slaves.

Doomsday. Armageddon. 2012. The end of the world or the apocalypse is known by its many names and has become an extremely viral subject for this generation. But, imagine living in a world not playfully joking around about the apocalypse, but strategically trying to survive it. This is the harsh reality for Thomas, a teenager living in a virus polluted and self-destructing planet. A deadly disease has broken out called “the flare” which causes the most sane and rational people to become raging and hysterical flesh eaters. Not only has the virus taken the lives of millions, but the extreme climates have also killed the few remaining. In the novels The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials, Thomas and his friends will have to fight to survive a world taken over by the sick and protect one other from those who say they want to help. The two novels share a touching story of young lives entwined during a difficult time and the lengths the characters go through in order to survive the apocalypse. The ultimate question within these novels is what is one willing to risk in order to survive? Within the novels The Death Cure and The Scorch Trials, Thomas is forced to fight for his survival on a daily basis, and in doing so he is constantly faced with either having to betray those closest to him, or remain the honest and true man he is, in order to survive. Within these novels, relationships are tested to such extremes that the repercussions of each survival based decision the characters make have the possibility of endangering the lives of those closest to them, but ultimately is a test to see who remains true to themselves and does not sell out their friends or themselves.

Gavin Hood captivated almost the opposite of what the book entitled. The story line was consistent with the book’s story line, but the actors were portrayed to be very different. I do understand that the book was unrealistic when it comes to age and size, but Bonzo was one of the characters that bewildered me, mainly because, in Orson Scott Card's, Ender's Game, he had been depicted to be masculine and intimidating, and in Ender’s Game the movie, Bonzo was unusually petite; very different from what the book expressed him to be like. Welcome to the year 2019. In a futuristic world the Tyrell Corporation has given life to replicants, robots that are genetically programmed to be identical to humans. Blade Runner was released in 1982, and was directed by Ridley Scott, who is also well known for directing Alien in 1979. The science fiction thriller stars Harrison Ford and Sean Young. The film was nominated for two Oscars, including Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction. Blade Runner is a 1982 neo-noir that exemplifies strong storytelling and cinematic techniques. Today, a considerable amount of Blade Runner’s success has been because of its production design, portraying a modified future, and being a dominant film in the neo-noir genre. Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, the protagonist of the film. Deckard is a morally unstable retired bounty hunter, also known as “Blade Runner” who hunts illegal replicants. Rachael is an experiment by the Tyrell Corporation to create a more realistic replicant by constructing fake memories to provide a base for emotional responses. Due to the superior artificial replicants being both physically and mentally better than humans the government has calculated they are an insecurity to society. In the year 2019, replicants are illegal and do not have the freedom enjoyed by humans. The specialized “Blade Runner” police unit was brought into being to accurately identify and “retire” or kill replicants.
The Hunger Games movie review provides a well rounded and for the most part complete overview of the story that is effect towards its audience. The work applies to an audience that is both young and old. To be completely honest the review can and does appeal to individuals of all ages. Considering that this particular review was written in Rolling Stone magazine though raises the possibility that it was aimed toward a younger audience, but that could be generalizing to much.
The Maze Runner is a 2014 mystery/science fiction film that can be viewed from an archetypal perspective. An archetype can be described as a pattern that can and is copied and recurring symbols or characters. The concept of archetypes came from Carl Jung a psychiatrist who believed that all cultures use archetypes to build stories without communicating to each other about them. Two groups of archetypes are the character and symbolic archetypes. The film The Maze Runner should be analyzed through an archetypal perspective because it has character and symbolic archetypes.
The novel The Maze Runner by James Dashner begins with a teenage boy waking up in an elevator who has no memory of the past, only that his name is Thomas. When the doors of the elevator open up he is pulled into a humongous square surrounding, called the Glade, by a group of teenage boys. The boys in the Glade refer to themselves as the ‘Gladers’. Thomas learns that the Gladers have lived in there for two years and that the Glade is located in the center of a maze which contains a labyrinth of high walls that move during the night and deadly creatures called grievers. The Glade is led by two boys, Alby and Newt; they both maintain order in the Glade by enforcing strict rules and jobs that keep the Gladers busy. A day after Thomas’ arrival an unknown girl arrives in the Glade. This shocks everyone because the Gladers only receive a new person every month, never within the same week. This also shocks everyone because she was the only girl in a maze full of boys. The girl also gives a message that everything is going to change and that she is the last one ever. Right after her message she immediately falls into a coma. The arrival of the girl causes many things to go chaotic including the sun seizing to rise, the Gladers stop receiving supplies from the creators of the maze, and the doors of the Glade that protect the Gladers from the grievers at night stop closing. When the girl, Teresa wakes up she informs Thomas that they both knew each other in the past and that the maze was a code. Thomas and the people who run around the maze to map out the labyrinth, the runners, look through the archives of the maps and find out the code. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is a novel based in Afghanistan that shows the betrayal between two boys with two different social backgrounds. Four years later “The Kite Runner” was filmed by David Benioff, which shows the meaningful message that the book delivers in a movie. Throughout the book and movie, Amir the protagonist must live the rest of his life with guilt from his childhood. Although the movie gave the same meaningful message that the book delivered, the book was further developed, which had more detail and kept the readers wanting more. Ultimately these details that were present in the novel gave the readers a better understanding of the characters, which led to the relationships
