Analyzing the Cinematic Hook: A Movie Introduction

The movie starts out with a terrified girl running. The opening scene leaves with questions about why she is running. The director (Gary Sinise) does a good job starting the movie because of the questions it leaves with and the excitement of the movie. Then see theses two men running and men on horse back with guns and dogs chasing them. The two men are played by the actors Gary Sinise (George). During the credits it cuts off and see a short clip of a railroad car then the credits continued. The hook of the movie grabs your attention. The first part of the movie you learn that Lennie is different. The audience can tell that he is different by the way he talks and how he does not remember and that makes you sympathize with Lennie as a character. When Lennie and George are walking to the ranch Lennie finds a dead mouse and wants to pet it because he finds it comforting. George tells him to put it down and Lennie starts crying because George told him to put it down and George tries to comfort him by saying that they will get him a dog and he could pet the dog instead of the dead mouse. Here we find out George’s personality he is strict but cares a lot for Lennie.
Also the director does a good job making connections with the other actors. Candy (Ray Walston) Is a cheerful old man. Candy only has one hand and an old dog and he works as the cleaner. Curley (Casey Siemaszko) is a rude judgemental man and he immediately does not like Lennie. The music in the movie was great it set the tone and mood of the movie. The beginning of the movie starts with ominous on the verge of creepy music. Also when Candy’s dog is about to be shot and the audience is viewing the bunkhouse were the ranch workers are and all you hear is silence and then hear the gunshot then hear Candy crying and then sad ominous music starts and that sets the mood of the scene. The music and sound of the movie determines how someone feels about the movie. The movie also does a spectacular job at showing the theme of the movie loneliness. They use Crooks to show the theme by him trying to explain to Lennie how he feels. The movie also shows loneliness with Curley’s wife she tells everyone that Curley does not pay any attention to
