Copland is a movie that is full of action. This movie is a dramatic action movie made in the nineties, which takes place in a little town called Garrison, NJ; this town is home for a lot of NYPD officers. The sheriff of this town is Freddy Heflin played by Sylvester Stallone, who is hard at hearing in one ear due to saving Liz Randone whom he is madly in love with. Because of his hearing issue he cannot become an NYPD officer. One night an off duty NYPD cop “Superboy” played by Michael Rapaport was side swiped by two black teenage boys, he tries to make them pull over and when they do not pull over Superboy continued the chase. He fakes his death so doesn’t have to face is consequences. Ethically speaking he is an egoist. An egoist is mainly only concerned about themselves. They do not consider what is best for others around them. There are a few different types of egoism but this character mainly falls under a descriptive egoist because he chooses to fake his death instead of facing his consequences. Faking your own death is not only wrong by ethics but this is also lawfully wrong. He knows that the death of two innocent black boys would raise a lot of publicity and he and the NYPD would not have adequate answers. The discrimination that the officer had is the cause behind two lost lives. The officer doesn’t want to be treated equally as in other citizen would have. He is asked to help bring down the corrupt officers of the NYPD, which most of these officer are residents in his town. Although he is intimidated by these officers, he is willing to help out the Internal Affairs. He feels like it’s his duty to bring these NYPD officers down and bring justice to the innocent lives affected by these officers. This is deontological theory. This is the theory of duty. Freddy has to think if he wants to help the Internal Affairs officer. He chose that it was his duty to help. Being the Sheriff of Garrison, Freddy lawfully should try and make his town as safe as possible. There are two different types of duties perfect, absolute or unchanging duties and imperfect or flexible duties. Getting justice for the town of Garrison is a perfect duty because Freddy is the sheriff, people of the community look to authorities to keep them and their neighborhoods
