Field Hockey Game Analysis

When I was in high school, I was involved in many different ways, but my biggest commitment by far was playing on the varsity field hockey team. I began playing field hockey in the fifth grade and took a great liking to the sport. As an incoming freshman to my new high school where I did not know many people, I decided to try out for the field hockey team in hopes of meeting new people and making a few friends before the official start of school. After a grueling week of tryouts in the heat of August, I found out that I had made the junior varsity team, and I could not have been more excited. Both women had very different coaching styles that enacted very different responses from me and the rest of my teammates. As a freshman, my junior varsity head coach, Mary Catherine, took me under her wing, saw my potential, and pushed me to do my best using the power of positive reinforcement and constructive feedback. The confidence she had in me was what pushed me to work hard and make the varsity team my sophomore year. The head coach of the varsity team, Marie, was both the director of the entire field hockey program as well as the varsity head coach. Her coaching style was heavily focused on winning. Our team had a reputation of being a great one, and she was not able to let us lose it. She was not one to often dish out compliments and praise, so we knew that when she told us we were doing a good job, she meant it. Her feedback was usually more on the negative side. If someone did something wrong, everyone knew it, and mistakes made just meant more sprints at the end of practice. However at the end of the day, we knew that everything she said and did was because she loved us, she loved the team, and she wanted us to accomplish our never-ending goal of winning the league
