Fence In The Play Troy's Fences

The play “Fences” was based off of a family who all built a different type of fence. Their fences were based off of their character, which was very different. Everyone has their own personal fence or wall that they have to block people out or so they won’t get hurt for any reason. Some people build fences to keep people out, while other build fences to keep people in. In the play Rose wanted her husband Tory and his son Corey to build a fence around the yard to keep people out. But I think it was so they could spend more time together.

Tory who is Rose husband, and the father of Lyons and Corey. He based his life off of how we was raised, he says that he wants his children to do better than him. Like most parents. But it’s hard

She was what i would like to refer to as the glue,because she always tries her best to keep them together. Rose and troy’s love story is not like most. She didn’t fall in love with him,she grew to love him. As she has said in the play she planted her seed inside of him. Rose love for Troy was tested when Troy decided to tell that he got another woman pregnant. Although it may have broke her heart,late when it was time for the baby to come into the world her mother was called home to be with the lord and Rose takes care of the child and loves her as if she was her own.It was a girl and her name was Raynell.Because Rose decided to take care of the child,it shows that she has a good heart and that she puts her feelings to the side and do what has to be

But his father Tory thinks that his job should come first because playing football isn’t for a black man,he says that they only choose the blacks that has to be ten times better,put he still won’t play. Rose tries to talk Tory to tell him to let Corey play football,but Tory seems to think that because he didn’t make it in baseball,that Corey won’t make it in football. Tory made Corey quiet the team even though that was his only way to living a better life.

Then there’s Troy’s other son Lyon,who only comes around when he wants something. Lyons dreams is to do music. Although his father (Tory) disagrees with it,because he seems to think it’s not a real job. But to Lyon his opinion doesn’t matter. Troy tries to talk about the way Lyon was brought up...but he wasn’t there so he couldn’t really say anything about the way he was raised.

The Maxson family seems to be very distance when it comes to Troy (who is the head of the family) but somehow he finds a way to hurt the people who loves him. For example… He cheats on Rose and has a baby. He takes the only thing that’s important to Corey away because he no longer works. He thinks Lyon is wasting his time because he thinks that playing music is not gonna take care of his family. To me it seems like every type of good that comes his way,he finds a way to destroy
