Role of the Advanced Practice Nurse
Advanced practice nursing covers several areas in nursing. Family Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice role that focuses on managing care for patients of all ages. The particular function is clinical. A requirement of a master’s degree and national certification is required before a nurse practitioner can begin to practice. Advanced practice nursing concepts are needed to guide future nurse practitioners in the right direction.

Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner requires at least a Master’s degree and national certification. According to The Mississippi Board of Nursing, a nurse may use APN privileges once the following are completed,
Submit an initial application with all appropriate documents, complete a 720-hour residency that was monitored by either a licensed physician or certified APRN and evidence of this must be submitted to the Board of Nursing and accepted to be begin unmonitored practice and be eligible to apply for controlled substance privilege. Guiding and coaching patients in various aspects of their health plan is detrimental to success in managing illnesses. Providing patients with educational materials will help lead them in the right direction when choosing to manage their care. Coaching can also be deemed as cheering a patient on when they are on the correct path or sway from the correct path when managing their disease. Guidance and coaching are needed in good times and bad times when treating a patient’s chronic illness. This concept can be built upon to help manage the healthcare team.
