Recommended: Impacts of religion on moral values

Is there an idea you would be willing to die for? The answer to this question is simple for me.
Yes. I would gladly give up my life because of my faith in and my love for the Lord Jesus Christ. When there is a truth that you believe in, you have a reason to live . When you have nothing to believe in, then you have nothing to strive for and whatever you do becomes irrelevant. If you have no purpose for your actions you produce nothing of value. That person, whose actions are irrelevant, would become depressed, passive, angry or even worse. Society as a whole would see an increase in crime and hateful actions. Because without something to believe in, there is no love.

Furthermore, people will die for what is true. For example, in the book “Fahrenheit 451” an old woman was caught hiding her books. The firemen come to her home and proceed to ravage her books and belongings. The firemen's flippant attitude towards her is abominable. They ransacked her house until they found most of the books. They piled them on her front yard. However, before the firemen set her house ablaze, the woman lights a match and sets herself, her house, and her books on fire. For example, If someone were to ask a Muslim if they were willing to die for their religious beliefs. The answer would be a simple yes. As a result of being taught this their entire lives. Christians would strongly argue against their beliefs ,since Jesus teaches something completely different. Nevertheless, they would continue believing in what they feel sure to be true. On the other hand, no one is willing to die for what one knows is not true. For instance, would someone die for the notion that the sky is green, when it is obviously blue?     To start, the novel Fahrenheit 451 describes the fictional futuristic world in which our main protagonist Guy Montag resides. Montag is a fireman, but not your typical fireman. In fact, firemen we see in our society are the ones, who risk their lives trying to extinguish fires; however, in the novel firemen are not such individuals, what our society think of firemen is unheard of by the citizens of this futuristic American country. Instead firemen burn books. They erase knowledge. They obliterate the books of thinkers, dreamers, and storytellers. They destroy books that often describe the deepest thoughts, ideas, and feelings. Great works such as Shakespeare and Plato, for example, are illegal and firemen work to eradicate them. In the society where Guy Montag lives, knowledge is erased and replaced with ignorance. This society also resembles our world, a world where ignorance is promoted, and should not be replacing knowledge. This novel was written by Ray Bradbury, He wrote other novels such as the Martian chronicles, the illustrated man, Dandelion wine, and something wicked this way comes, as well as hundreds of short stories, he also wrote for the theater, cinema, and TV. In this essay three arguments will be made to prove this point. First the government use firemen to get rid of books because they are afraid people will rebel, they use preventative measures like censorship to hide from the public the truth, the government promotes ignorance to make it easier for them to control their citizens. Because the government makes books illegal, they make people suppress feelings and also makes them miserable without them knowing.

Some people chose to die for their beliefs while others are just objects of fate and die because of their beliefs while in the hands of others. For example, American soldiers don't often chose to die. They die because they are standing up for what they believe in and are killed because they are protecting what they believe in. They know they can potentially die but don't take their own lives. On the other hand, suicide bombers offer themselves fully as they kill themselves for their beliefs. People have been standing up and fighting for their beliefs for centuries in order to defend and protect their valued views. If they die protecting their sentiments, then they have died noble deaths. In Greek Literature, two women face their fates of dying by defending what they believe in. Ipheigeneia loves her father and in order to win the Trojan War, she must be sacrificed. She resists her fate at first but as expected she allows her father to do the necessary. Ipheigeneia is sacrificed. Additionally, Antigone faces her fate defending her brother Polyneices. He was murdered by his own brother; however, he was considered a traitor since he returned from exile and therefore was not allowed be buried properly. Antigone felt as his sister she must give him the proper burial. Kreon -the king of Thebes- was furious and sentenced her to death Later, he changes his decision but it is too late as she has taken her own life. These young, brave women are obviously similar while maintaining differences in their deaths.
