Education was brought on by different religions and has advanced from there. In order to understand the bible or other text, education was and is a requirement. In effect, education is highly valued in most cultures in order to read their own holy scripture. Some religions go against each other and prohibits the learning of other religions. There are some limits to schooling in some countries such as: your gender, social standing, wealth, the subjects taught and even the limits on today’s schooling. In religion gender plays a huge role. If you are female, things are very different, especially when it comes to schooling. For example in Afghanistan getting education for women has just become important. “Females now make up about one-third of the children in the classroom. Approximately 36 percent of girls, numbering around 3.5 million, are going to school now as compared to 200,000 who attended in 2002.” (Egan 2014) Although this number is an improvement other religions and parts Afghanistan still don’t allow girls education. Even some religions prohibit women working or even showing their skin. In some areas where religion is held in high priority, learning to read and understand the bible is very crucial to a religious community. For example Catholic and Christian schools around the world use their holy scripture to teach students. However, in other times censorship of texts used to teach were banned from some religions. For example book burnings in Germany during the 19th century, Nazis burned millions of copies of the Jewish scripture to “purge” the country of Jews.
