How fear works
Fear is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. It is a basic survival mechanism that signals our bodies to respond to danger with a fight or flight response. When a person experiences fear, the brain short-circuits more rational procession paths and reacts immediately to signals from the amygdala. When the body experiences fear, there are many short term and long term effects. Fear is caused when the amygdala and organs in the limbic system detect possibilities of dangers and then send the signals that generate the fear emotion. Fear is an emotion that acts instantly. It will send signals so that it can avoid danger, but if it is unavoidable it intensifies and you will begin to subconsciously store all the details around the danger. Some details include sounds, smells, sights, time of day, weather, and much more. While this is helpful to keep yourself safe, it can later become a problem. After your body has experienced fear and remembers all the details of that situation, the sight, smell, or other details remembered can become a stimuli themselves and trigger fear when no danger is near. This can cause a person to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder

One method is to first, acknowledge what your fear is. Sometimes, a stimulus can make a person feel fear but they are not sure what they are afraid of. Then, a person should define its contours. This means to know things like when the fear began, what triggers your fear, how the fear affects you, is the source of your fear actually dangerous, and so much more. Last, a person should imagine the outcome they desire with their fear. For example, if a person is afraid that someone might try to hurt them someday, they could take self defense classes to help make themselves feel at ease because they will know how to react to the
“At the University of California at Irvine, experiments in rats indicate that the brain’s hormonal reaction to fear can be inhibited, softening the formation of memories and the emotions they evoke” (Baard).
Fear is an everyday emotion that the human race must face, and it can bring out the best and worst of us, but its how we choose to deal with it that truly defines us.
One of the most controversial topics of the century hinges on one simple question: What makes the world go round? Most will jump to say money. Some will argue in favor of their religion. Others will point out scientific facts. The truth is, none are correct. One emotion, one aspect of life shines above the others, extending its light on merely half of our beloved globe, leaving the other semi-circle to deal with pitch black: fear. To understand its impact, society’s definition of fear must be perceived. Fear is officially defined as an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something dangerous will harm him/her. However, with his classic novel, Alan Paton shows that it extends far beyond that. An old man by the name of Stephen Kumalo leaves the comfort of his tribe in Ndotsheni, and embarks on a

Change your response to the fear as you confront it. You can, for instance, learn to laugh at your fear. This is what comedian Kevin Hart learned to do, and he became
Aristotle once said, “Men are swayed more by fear than by reverence.” It’s generally known that fear is quite a motivator in any given situation. This is apparent in many real life situations such as the Red Scare or the Salem Witch Trials of 1962. Arthur Miller was a playwright victimized by McCarthyism in the Second Red Scare who related his experience to the Salem Witch trials. He was oppressed because he had Communist sympathies. In the midst of this oppression, he looked into the Salem Witch Trials and saw similarities to the Red Scare. In The Crucible, Arthur Miller shows his belief that humanity is driven by fear and self-preservation, often resulting in people abandoning their morals.
Fear is an emotion that can control our everyday thoughts and actions. Fear keeps people from
In the words of Bertrand Russell, “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom” (Russell). Fear causes many problems in our lives. Fear influences many of a person’s actions and decisions. However, people usually regret the decisions or actions they made out of fear. Also, these actions and decisions can cause problems for those people in their future. Fear is a harmful emotion, for it clouds people’s judgement, disables them from taking action, and causes them to make decisions that they will regret later.
Fear can be caused by many different things and can be a result of different situations. “Fear is a primary emotion. It is an evolved and adaptive physiological response that occurs automatically in response to particular

You’re standing at the entrance, waiting to walk in, heart racing, hand trembling, soul quaking fear pulsates through your body overtaking you like a tsunami. Fear is an emotion caused by the presence of danger. Whenever we sense danger, we feel fear. Animals use their senses, they see, smell and listen for anything unusual, in order to sense danger. A human who feels fear, will do anything in order to make it stop.

Fear is an interesting emotion. Biologically, it is a very useful and vital emotion that keeps us safe from danger. For example, when we see dangerous animal our heart rate may accelerate, palms may sweat and perhaps our breathing becomes restricted. It is our body preparing to deal with the potential danger facing us while we decide whether we should run or fight (often referred to as the fight or flight response).
Fear is merely a thought or a reaction that the body produces to bring awareness to situations of danger. This emotion is more of a survival instinct than it is harmful, though it does have the capacity to affect people’s life long term. Regardless of what the situation is, whether it be an actual instinctive feeling of the need to survive or just simply being scared of something one is not familiar with, fear is still very unpredictable but I don’t believe it can be harmful to the body or to the mind unless someone does not have the ability to control their emotions. The only thing to fear is how much someone is willing or involuntarily letting this fear influence more than they have the ability to control and it does not let one think of anything, except the thing your mind is currently thinking of at that time, it is most when it deteriorating the thinking capacity. More often than not, this emotion pops up in the mind as a sense of protection and survival
