The three values that I believe in most strongly are integrity, community, and respect. These are three qualities or ‘covert values’ that I think should be emphasized in a working environment, especially one such as a hospital or any health care system. Integrity should always be involved in any work place. This plays a large role in moral thought. Doing what is right and upholding that belief should always come first. As nurses our main focus should be the patients. Having integrity in the work place makes sure that this focal point is assured. Community should also be highlighted. I come from a small town where everyone knows everyone. This plays a large part in why I believe strongly in integrity, community, and respect. In a small community, you know everyone and you want to see them succeed. You’re close with all of your schoolmates and even their families. My sense of community was heightened from a young age. This lead to an increased importance of integrity and respect because my parents raised our family with a respect for others and the right decisions. My father is a business owner and he always emphasized that the decisions he makes don’t only affect him and our family, but also the lives of his workers and their families which really reiterated the importance of respect for others. My mother works in insurance and deals with cases involving accidents and many medical issues. In order to best protect them, my mother relies heavily on integrity. She needs to make the best decisions for her clients and not ones that will benefit her the most. A small community and a close family provided me with the reinforcement I needed to value my friends, neighbors, teachers, and school
