In the movie, Remember the Titans, there were several positive character traits. Four of which include brotherhood, optimism, perseverance, and pride. The character trait, brotherhood, was shown in many settings in the movie. When an African American boy sat down at a white table, everyone chose to accept him as "another son of god" rather than taking race into account. Also, eventually the Titans sang "Aint no Mountain High Enough" in unison, finally treating each other like brothers after many occurrences in which they didn't. Another example includes, when one of the football players was attacked in the hallway, the other men on the football team helped him out. All of which show brotherhood, because they treat one another as brothers
In the novel, Black Ships Before Troy by Rosemary Sutcliff, the majority of the characters are brave, and selfless heroes, except for Paris. Character traits are the aspects of a person's behavior and attitudes that make up that person's personality. Paris is a selfish coward who expects everyone to fight his war for him.
Brotherhood is defined as a close relationship between two brothers. In Of Mice and Men, George and Lennie have known each other since they were kids and they have been traveling around with one another looking for work. Lennie is mentally slow but he is strong, while George is an intelligent man but is a scrawnier individual. They are brothers from other mothers. It was the year of 1971, music blared and neon lights zipped across the stadium as the announcers began to introduce the football teams to their fans. Palpable excitement buzzed through the charged air as the crowd erupted into a mighty cheer. The Titans then stepped out onto the field, performing their usual wacky cheer and singing along the way. A few minutes later the game began, and the Titans were relentless.
The movie I decided to analyze was Remember the Titans. I examined the dilemmas and ethical choices that were displayed throughout the story. In the early 1970s, two schools in Alexandria Virginia integrate forming T.C. Williams High School. The Caucasian head coach of the Titans is replaced by an African American coach (Denzel Washington) from North Carolina, which causes a fury among white parents and students. Tensions arise quickly among the players and throughout the community when players of different races are forced together on the same football team. Coach Boone is a great example of a leader. He knows he faces a tough year of teaching his hated team. But, instead of listening to the hating town or administrators, Boone pushes his team to their limits and forces good relationships between players, regardless of race. His vision for the team involves getting the players concerned in what the team needs to become, and not what it is supposed to be; a waste. Boone is a convincing leader with a brutal, boot camp approach to coaching. He believes in making the players re-build themselves as a team. When Boone says, You will wear a jacket, shirt, and tie. If you don't have one buy one, can't afford one then borrow one from your old man, if you don't have an old man, then find a drunk, trade him for his. It showed that he was a handy Craftsman and wanted done what he wanted done no matter what it took.During training camp, Boone pairs black players with white players and instructs them to learn about each other. This idea is met with a lot of fighting, but black linebacker Julius Campbell and stubborn white All-American Gerry Bertier. To a certain extent, this demonstrates a sense of individualism as well as maturity. The character that I most closely relate to is Sal, but I would consider Mookie to be a close second. Both of these characters realize the value of work and subsequent reward while keeping in mind the damaging effects of conflict. Sal has quite a bit of faith in Mookie to deliver pizzas and deal with some of the more difficult customers (e.g. Buggin’ Out). Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X are mentioned commonly throughout the film; one man values love while the other champions the occasional necessity for violence. Though Sal and Mookie seem very much indifferent rather than belonging to one side or the other, they both demonstrate signs of love rather than of hate. The final trait that plays into my identity is nice. People think I’m a really nice person because I don’t really have much of an attitude and I don’t get mad real easy which is always nice. When you’re nice to people they sort of grow a longer fuze around you so they don’t get all mad at someone who is nice to them. Remember the Titans is a film from 2000 displaying a true story of a racially divided football team from the 1970s. The movie highlights the relationships of the black and white people, and how they learned to interact with each other in a time when this was not the way of life. It brings up a number of questions throughout, of what is right and what is wrong, and really challenges the characters, making it a very interesting movie to watch. I have seen this movie many times, and each time I feel like I get something new out of it. It is a movie that can be used as a teaching tool, it does a great job of interpreting not only what was happening in the United States of America at that time, but social psychology concepts through real life situations.
In Remember the Titans there are many examples of authoritarian, delegative, and participative leadership styles. There will be two thorough examples for each type of leadership style. I will then identify an effective leader. I will also identify an ineffective leader. After that I will talk about two characters that leadership styles changed through the movie.
The last trait is Forgiving. When Roger gave his card to Tony, so Tony could call him and have lunch. That was the most wonderful thing that a person can do. The evidence that supports my idea is “.... pulled out one of my cards that had my home telephone written on it and I handed it to him.” When Roger did that, it showed that he forgave him and he’s not mad at him at all. Another quote is “ I hope he calls me some time. The first characteristic, a positive attitude, is important because having the ability and enjoyment of working with other people in a team is a useful skill. A sincere liking and respect for other people is a wonderful asset. Being well liked will certainly help in working in teams or any other social situation. Humor and warmth are effective in order to be a good team member. A follower who focuses on positive thoughts by filtering out negative ones is on the trail of leadership. President Dwight D. Eisenhower often said, “No pessimist ever won a battle.” People who have a positive outlook on both life and specific situations tend to achieve their goals more often. The choice and determination to maintain an event-tempered disposition come what may; hence the ability to smile in the face of adversity and make things a little brighter for everyone.
One inspirational characteristic that is shown throughout the course of the novel is determination. From the beginning of the book to the conclusion, Robert Jordan is attempting to successfully execute his mission and blow the bridge. The events that unfold are inspirational because it shows someone looking for a career in public service that even if there are hardships along the way, they will eventually be able to accomplish their goals if they keep trying and work through the problems.
