What does it mean to say someone is an American? From the time the nation gained its independence, to present day, every individual has had a different interpretation of what it means to be an American. Sow would say that Americans are stubborn, others that they are independent. A famous author and American farmer by the name of Crevecoeur would say that Americans are hardworking and multicultural. One trait that most Americans possess, is stubbornness. Whether stubbornness is a good or bad thing depends on the situation, but the country's stubbornness has made it the powerful nation that it is today. Americans never seem to take “no” for an answer, especially when it came to Great Britain saying no to the United States becoming and independent nation. Most Americans never give up and keep working at whatever their task is, until it is done right. Unlike citizens in many other countries, the majority of citizens in America do not rely on the government to take care of them. When people come to this country, the often start from scratch. They come here with few belongings, they find jobs, food, and homes, all on their own. Many people here rarely rely on the help of others, or if they do they do it reluctantly. Usually these individuals do not want help because they they believe that if you want something to be done right, you have to do it yourself.
