Ethical problems of gambling

Gambling is a highly addictive activity that millions of people are addicted to all over the world. A compulsive gambler often shows the same symptoms as an alcoholic or a person addicted to drugs. Addiction to gambling is caused by a chemical imbalance just like cocaine in certain individuals. Just as drug addicts need to take drugs in order to stay a high, a gambler has to gamble in order to stay high off the experience of winning. A lot of the individuals that have this addiction have responsibilities that get neglected due to them spending time gambling. Casinos and online gambling sites take advantage of this fact by offering incentives to continue gambling. Ethically is this wrong , should the entities providing the addiction seek to help those that are addicted to gambling?
I actually worked in a Casino as a security officer in Las Vegas for about 8 years. During that time I have seen gamblers and the Casino make very poor ethical decisions about the problems they suffer from. In one instance a customer had given the phone number of the casino to her children so she could gamble and if the children needed anything they could call and get a hold of her. The biggest example of this was in Australia starting in the 1950's. It was a utilitarian approach to the problem that did not have the expected result. Social contracts that would emphasize on these clubs being social more than gaming were proposed. By the 1990s, not only had many Australian clubs retreated from their social contract to focus on commercial rather than social goals, but their competitive approach to machine gambling operations was fueling concerns for problem gambling.
