The book that we read for this month is Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Treasure Island was a very good book. It was filled with adventure, sadness, surprises, and fighting. I think that Treasure Island helped me understand the life of being at sea and also the hardships you face. The book is mostly narrated by Jim Hawkins and it feels like you are in the story with Jim. Sometimes, you feel like you are part of the story. The reason we are writing this book report is for English class.
The setting took place during the eighteenth century. They started off near Bristol, England and later in the book, they travel to Treasure Island which is located off the coast of “Spanish America.” The setting of the book does change because they Jim starts off in England and then sets sail to Treasure Island to look for the lost treasure. The setting is critical to the book because in order for the other scenes to take place, the setting of the book has to change.
Jim Hawkins is the main character of the book. He narrates most of the story and he tells us about his experience on Treasure Island. The only time Jim doesn’t narrate is during the three chapters that Dr. Livesey narrates. Other than that, Jim is the narrator for this book. Long John Silver is a secondary character in the story. Even though he is only a secondary character, he still plays an important role in the book. Long John Silver is very cunning and mischievous. Silver was always fond of Jim and they had many things in common. Another secondary character is Dr. Livesey. Dr. Livesey is a very knowledgeable and trustworthy man. Jim gives Dr. Livesey the treasure map in the beginning when they found the treasure map. Dr. Livesey also plays an important role in the stor...

I think that Treasure Island was a great book and was filled with lots of adventure and excitement. I liked how the book turned out in the end and it was a great book. I would recommend other seventh and eighth graders to read this book. This book has a wonderful moral about being courageous and it also shows that adventure comes in many different ways. After reading the book, it gave me a motivation to become more courageous and to conquer adversity. Overall, the book was great and had a great plot. Treasure Island takes you on a journey to a different world and it is filled with excitement, thrill, peril, and many more.
No matter how they are told or expressed, most dystopian stories have several similar assets. They are usually made to be unique, however there are usually numerous links between them. The book Brave New World and the film “The Island” are prime examples of this statement. A few similarities include the actions of hypnopaedia, forbidden love and affection, and un-natural births.
Treasure Island has a very clear call to adventure near the start of the story in which Jim Hawkins uncovers his signal to cross the threshold. During the prologue of this novel, Jim and his mother finds a new customer visiting their inn. He was a retired pirate who carried a chest with him, he knew he was near death so he gave Jim the key to it. Inside the chest, Jim found a map to a place called Treasure Island where there was supposedly hidden loot. “Mother could there be treasure here? I mean it is a map to Treasure Island” (Stevenson 42). That is when Jim decided to step out of his ordinary world and accept the call to adventure. It was a decision that took courage and bravery, two characteristics that he maintains throughout the rest of the story. This part of the novel clearly shows the call to adventure that Jim Hawkins
Jim had run away from his abusive father and enabling small town to find himself traveling down the Mississippi on a raft. His traveling partner was a black slave, Jim. Wondering why Jim was there, Huck discovers that Jim had run away from his slave owner, Ms. Watson. Jim had spoken about his harsh life as a slave, and resented talk of being sold down to Orleans for a “big stack o’ money.” Huck felt that Jim’s escape was wrong, but kept his promise of secrecy, like any good friend would.

If you want to answer this question, you need to have the ability to consider what background, values and personal evolution are. Turtle Island" by Joseph Boyden also talks about the story about an 11-year-old aboriginal boy who caught between the rough world of the Indian Posse and his dawning affection for his little brother’s pet turtle, named Island (Joseph 1).At the beginning, he was a rebellious and Impulsive person who was against cultural belief. In the end, of the story, he had chosen to become a person who was brave, responsible and mature.
In conclusion, I liked this book because it told about two different perspectives, one from the past and one from the present. It showed me the struggles Lewis and Clark faced, during their expedition, and what it was like to explore unknown terrain. I learned that the information gathered and the proof of an overland passage to the Pacific helped to open up the entire continent for rapid expansion and settlement to the new nation. It also told me about a family following in the footsteps of the Lewis and Clark expedition, and their excitement in doing so. I would defiantly recommend this book to my friends.
While the journey’s main aim is quiet obvious, it is possible to argue that there are implicit and explicit goals behind this journey. Explicitly, the idea of pursuing a journey to an exotic island to find a pirate’s treasure is undoubtedly appealing. Indeed, as a child, it offered Jim a chance to escape the inn’s confinements and his mother’s authority. Nevertheless, there are many implicit goals behind this journey. Firstly, it was intended to help him acquire knowledge and experience through nature. Secondly, it aimed to make him realize his own capacities and capabilities. Thirdly, Christopher Parks (2009) argues that the journey’s fundamental aim was to make Hawkins’ fit for his future role in the service of the Empire. Fourthly, it provided him a chance to aid his mother’s as well as his own financial condition. And finally, according to Diana Loxley (2009), imperialism and colonial exploration are what lurks behind the quest for the treasure. Certainly, the characters in the novel are all engaged in an intoxicated pursuit after the treasure in order to transfer it to the Empire, gain their own share, improve their lives and rise up in ranks. Furthermore, Treasure Island has also been regarded as a psychological journey from childhood to adulthood, motivated by the search for a father (Maybin, Haslam & Watson, 2009). In the novel by Mark Twain, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the two main characters, Huck and Jim, are strongly linked. Their relation is portrayed by various sides, some of them good and some others bad. But the essential interest of that relation is the way that uses the author to describe it. Even if he had often been misunderstood, Twain always implied a message behind the themes developed around Huck and Jim.
...im decides to tell Long John everything he did to try to ruin his plan to find the treasure he spares Jim’s life even though the other pirates want him dead. Long John also decides to stand by Jim even though he has a feeling his crew is going to take him out of his captain position. Jim shows a lot of courage and that he’s a man of his word when he is given the opportunity to run away but instead he decides to stay because he gave Long John his word that he will help him through his trial. Jim is taken to where the treasure is believed to be but when they dig up the area there was no treasure. The treasure is later discovered at site where Ben Gunn has hidden it. The reasons I mentioned earlier steers Jim in the right direction of the treasure because of him not trusting Long John but instead using his smarts and his very high maturity level to find the treasure.
Vacation is the one thing that people look forward to throughout the year. People usually think of it as a time to relax, unwind, and enjoy an amazing tropical getaway. Maybe it’s chilling at the beach or taking the night out, vacation is always something fun for anyone. Imagine yourself soaking in the sun, laying by the shore, breathing in the salty air, and laying under a palm tree. People can experience this all right along the island of Key West. Key West is an exciting vacation for the whole family to enjoy that includes snorkeling to amazing seafood.

The town was patterned after Hannibal, Missouri, where Clemens spent his childhood. It is located on the Mississippi River about 80 miles from St. Louis, Missouri. Most of the novel’s setting is on the Mississippi River south of St. Petersburg.

Throughout the novel, Jim internally aspires toward the significant and frequently occurring image, courage. From the very beginning he sees "himself saving people from sinking ships . . . an example of devotion to duty, and as unflinching as a hero in a book" (3).
The story of the Fall of Man is known to many people not so much through the Bible as through John Milton's Paradise Lost. Milton's work presents a version that has become part of biblical custom, and to a certain degree aid in the understanding of the Creation and the Fall based on Milton's additions and explanations. The poem's monumental influence aside, Milton's unparalleled perspective has made Paradise Lost one of the most significant works that is relatable to his own era and the present. However, religion is not the only aspect that can be presented at a contemporary angle. By bringing in symbolic figures he invites allegorical interpretations that allow similarities to be made about community structure. Milton appeals to a modern audience by recognizing the structure of society throughout Paradise Lost. Today’s generation remains familiar with this societal component and its various interpretations.
When thinking of books that seem to be written specifically for young boys, Treasure Island is a book that comes to many minds. Treasure Island is the epic tale of thrill seeking and adventure. Stevenson’s main character is a small boy, Jim, who gets to go away from his mother and embark on a trip across the ocean. There are sea fearing pirates, sword fight, and bloody killings. These are typically things that interest boys. Stevenson also follows the literary pattern described by Perry Nodelman in his book, The Pleasures of Children’s Literature. He describes that many novels written by men follow a pattern when it comes to the plot of their stories. “There is an unified action that rises toward a climax and then quickly comes to an end” (Nodelman 124). Treasure Island follows this pattern. The novel moves towards the climax of finding the treasure and then ends quickly without too great of detail with how the treasure money is spent or what happens in the character’s lives. In many ways, Treasure Island exemplifies the narrative patterns of a “boy book.”
