The short story i have studied in class is “On the sidewalk bleeding” by “Evan hunter”. The main character in the short story got stabbed in alley way. I found this story interesting because the main character changes his personality throughout the story. The character I will be talking about is Andy. He is 16 years old and is a member of a gang known as “The Royals” He is teenager and i can relate to him easily because he is a teenager and i am a teenager too. He had some dreams that he would marry laura and have a lot of kids. He wore purple jacket to show that he is a member of gang. There are two gangs “THE ROYAL” and “THE Guardians”.one member of guardian stabbed andy knowing that he is a member of the royal gang but didn’t
The book emphasizes the idea of how difficult it is to leave the gang lifestyle. There are frequent cases of relapse by individuals in the book, who were once out to again return to gangs. This case is brought by what gangs represent to this in the book and what leaving entails them to give up. The definition of gangs presented to the class was, three or more members, share name, color, or affiliation, or must exist in a geopolitical context. To members associated with gangs, this definition can include your family members, neighborhood, everyone that they associate with. Take for example Ronnie from Jumped in by Jorja Leap it states,” Ronny’s role models are gangbangers. His family is a hood. His mentors are older homies in county jail.”(102). Ronnie and other gang members like him do not
A hit was put out on Taylor and Zavala by leaders of the Mexican drug cartel because they were becoming a nuisance. This hit was carried out by the same Latino gang members who had previously done a drive-by shooting of a rival gang. The officers were enticed towards their imminent deaths with a car chase which was set up by the Latino gang members. This chase led them towards an apartment complex which was rigged with many gang members and artillery to ensure that neither Taylor nor Zavala would survive. The two were ambushed but decided that gunning their way out was their best option. When the officers made it to an alley they were met by another Latino gang member who fired at Taylor and Zavala, hitting Taylor once in the chest before being shot and killed by Zavala. Zavala went to aid Taylor who appeared to be quickly dying and called out for help. Before police back up arrived the original Latino gang members found Zavala in the...
worsen the situation and control his actions, through the gang he learns to be who he wants and to
The next character that intrigued me was Brian, the quote-on-quote "nerd." A nerd is a person that is academically inclined and is known for striving to get good grades and being socially inept. His confession of why he was in Saturday detention seemed a lot more serious then it actually turned out to be. He was in Saturday detention because he had a gun in his locker. He bought the gun to kill because he had intent on killing himself.
The main characters in this story are 6 friends from Cedarville Middle School, a crooked businessman, and a Doberman Pincher. Griffin Bing is, “The Man With The Plan,” and he organizes the missions this group of friends get involved in. Ben Slovak is Griffins best friend and he has a ferret that goes everywhere with him to help him with his narcolepsy or sleep disorder. Pitch Benson is an expert at mountain climbing and she helps them get into impossible places. Melissa Dukakis is a computer expert which comes in handy for eves dropping. Logan Kellerman is an actor and he is good at distracting people. Savannah Drysdale is an animal whisperer which has helped them get past guard dogs. S. Wendell Palomino or, “Swindle” is a crooked businessman who has caused these friends a lot of problems. Luthor is a huge temperamental Doberman who be...
When Andy was first stabbed a drunk guy finds him and Andy is asking him for help but he can’t talk cause of his wound and then the drunk guy starts talking to him asking him if he wanted a drink but doesn’t say anything so then the drunk guy starts yelling at him and tells him he can’t drink anyways and walks off. Andy then starts thinking that he can’t be dying as it says in the story “Guys get cut all the time in rumbles. I can’t be dying. No, that’s stupid. That do not make sense at all”. He said cause that’s what Andy thought being courageous was being in a gang and being tough and
In the two short stories “Initiation” and “On the Sidewalk, Bleeding”, the settings differ completely and are infact almost opposite, the characterization on the other hand is more similar. “OSB” is in a much more urban and dangerous setting, these two factors cause a not so good outcome for Andy. The author of “OSB also characterizes Andy as a diehard Royal, which is one of the reasons he dies and is written down as a Royal not as Andy. On the other hand, “Initiation” is set in a rural area with a happier mood. Togethering creating a happier ending for Millicent “her own private initiation had just begun” Millicent learns from her experience and lives to use her knew found knowledge. Sylvia Plath makes her protagonist a teenage girl who wants to be looked at as a perfect girl. While the authors characterize their protagonists, Andy and Millicent similarly, the setting creates a completely different outcome.
People are scared to help him because they think once they tell the cops the guardians will find them and hurt them. "He‟s a Royal. We help him, and the Guardians will be after us." Whenever one of the strangers think about helping Andy they see the royals then rethink about actually helping him. Another reason the strangers wouldn't want to help him is because they think the guardians will found out and be after them. The couple doesn't want to get involved with the gangs because they think they might get killed getting involve with the gangs. Andy tried his hardest not to be remembered as a royal but as soon as the cop seen Andy's royal jacket the cop immediately wrote this. "He took out his black pad. He opened it to a blank page. “! Royal,” he said." Even though Laura was telling the cop Andy's name it seemed like he was just ignoring her and writing down royal. Andy tried with all his effort to not to remembered as just a royal. Andy cared about this so much he tried to take his royal jacket off while he was bleeding so this caused him a lot of pain from doing
Zachary is a kind, intelligent but slightly obsessive young man. He is a developing character because throughout the story you discover different aspects of his character. His character seems very predictable it turns our that his actions are unpredictable in the end. The story ends with a twist, which explains his actions throughout the story.
As Andy approaches his near end, he comes to realize that the street fighting he participated in throughout his whole life, and the Royal title he cherished held no value for him. ‘He was filled with sadness that his life would be over at sixteen. He felt all at once as if he had never done anything, never seen anything, never been anywhere. He wondered why he'd never thought of them before, wondered why the rumbles and the jumps and the purple jackets had always seemed so important to him before’. Andy was only now able to realize the one thing that was so important to him - Laura. ‘Someday he would marry Laura. Someday he would marry her, and they would have a lot of kids, and then they would get out of the neighborhood. They would move to a clean project in the Bronx, or maybe they would move to Staten Island. When they were married, they had kids’. Andy had planned so far ahead in his life with Laura, and yet he spent his time fighting gang members, which now seemed pointless. The last moments were the turning point for Andy. In those last moments, Andy’s perspectives on himself, his title as a Royal, and his values had dramatically changed. ‘I'm Andy, he screamed wordlessly, I'm Andy. Andy came to recognize himself as Andy rather than a Royal; and he only came to realize this after being ambushed and while lying on the sidewalk
boy attitude and tough outside, while also having a good heart and a caring personality. His character brings out the reader’s ‘id’ as Freud would say. It brings out the naughtiness inside the reader’s personality, while still making him lovable because he is really a good person on the inside.
In the selection from The Street, Anne Petry uses an in-depth description of the wind’s actions to set the tone for the urban setting of the novel. The wind is the main opposition and harasses the protagonist, Lutie Johnson, every step of the way. The extended use of personification and careful selection of detail allows the author to communicate how the brutality of the urban setting deters Lutie Johnson as she looks for a place to stay.

I will be investigating Human Blood as my specific tissue and giving an overview on the location, characteristics, and the benefits it has to the human body. Blood is extracellular matrix that is consists of plasma, red blood cells, platelets, and white blood cells. Blood is located within the capillaries/veins/arteries of the human body, which are blood vessels that run through the entire body. These blood vessels allow the blood to flow smoothly and quickly from the heart to distinct parts of the human body. The unique parts of human blood all work together for a purpose: the Red Blood Cells(erythrocytes) transports oxygen throughout the body, White Blood Cells(leukocytes) play a part in the bodies immune system, Platelets(thrombocytes) assist in creating scabs,
