What is a sociopath? Google has listed the definition as “a person with a personality disorder manifesting itself in extreme antisocial attitudes and behavior and a lack of conscience.” As the definition states, sociopaths are affected by a mental disorder called Antisocial Personality Disorder, otherwise known as ASPD, that causes them to fail to have proper human emotion. Those affected by ASPD also fail to function morally and have a tendency to dissatisfy the need of having remorse or guilt from lying, breaking the law, or manipulating others for their own prosperity. The question is, how does someone receive this disorder? Sociopathy can appear in a human being through several factors. ASPD begins developing early in childhood, however, more often that not ASPD is diagnosed in the later stages of development; usually around eighteen years old. A child’s surrounding when growing up is vital in promoting healthy social skills and morals. Your surroundings can affect the ways you interact with others and how often. Having a positive and inviting setting can promote friendliness and acceptance. A negative environment could make a person with sociopathy perceive others as hostile or dangerous to their being. If you are surrounded by violence, you will begin to behave violently(“What Does the Environment Have on Us” Kreitzer). A positive environment helps a child develop a sense of trust and will help the creation of bonds with others. Having a negative environment will cause a child to become vigilant to their surroundings. Being in a vigilant state, the child will identify unknown people as hostile. This makes trusting and bonding with others to fail, making the child fail
