Social Media Over the past 10 years, the use of social media has exploded. While there are a broad range of social medias, three of the most known social media sites, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat have completely dominated the popularity game. These social media sites are also the most relevant in my life. of the most popular social medias, are also the most relevant to my life as well. “What’s your Snapchat?” is one of the most commonly asked questions when I first meet people. No, it’s not “Do you have a Snapchat?” instead it’s “What IS”. Snapchat is a way for teens, celebrities, brands, and those alike to share short pictures and videos of what they currently are doing. These pictures and clips can only be seen for a maximum of ten seconds at a time, unless the sender sets the visual as their snapstory. If something is set as a snapstory, the poster’s friends can view the post as many times as they want for the next 24 hours (unless deleted). Snapchat enables a user to post funny, entertaining posts that really have no significance other than pure amusement. Most snapchat’s also feature a caption directly onto the picture/video in order to explain to the audience exactly why it was posted. These captions do not have to be anything special, more of just a way to justify why you decided to send a 10-second picture of a …show more content…
Typically, Snapchat is also a quick way to checkout what others are doing. If I’m stuck in the library on a Friday night, I can check to see what fun things my friends are doing and feel a little left out. is a fun way to check out what other people are doing without
You can't deny you have not had fun with it because you have died laughting. You have spent a lot of time going threw snapchat and you have had a blast. I can have fun and be safe. It's so much fun but you can be smart about it
Snapchat also provides real-time content, meaning you can see what your friends are doing right in that moment. This is a contrast other forms of social media because Snapchat allows users to connect on a more minute to minute basis, leading to a seemingly more genuine connection, whereas users of social networking websites like Instagram and Facebook post the highlights of what they are doing on a less regular basis.
Snapchat has around 30 million active monthly users, with many being in the 18 to 24 year age range. The ‘snap’ what Snapchat calls its private messages is derivative of the SMS text message and instant messaging applications. One of the most unique things about Snapchat is the ‘self-destructing’ feature for phot...
Today’s generation in America is widely affected by social media, but the real question that millions want the answer to is what is the real impact? “76% of American adults online use social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest, as of July 2015, up from 26% in 2008. On social media sites like these, users may develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, links, and more. ” Social media has been the cause of countless problems, but also the solution to numerous issues which is why it is so hard to decide if it is more helpful than it is a burden or vise versa.
With the release of the new Snapchat update, many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use, but has in fact made many features more difficult. There is a general level of annoyance among users, to the point where many users are using VPN to go back to the old version. Despite Snapchat’s PR team recent statement claiming they understand the disdain towards the new layout and hope that users will adapt well, the
One of the greatest contradiction of today is the reality that instead of the screen created to be used, it became the users. Whether it’s at a school or even at a meeting, I see people with their eyes glued to their screens, a device that is the root of the growing impediments in today’s generation's social interactions and academic career. I am of no exception either. I tend to spend around seven hours a day in front of either my phone or my computer. What I usually do during this time are going on SnapChat(my favorite app), watching Rick and Morty (my favorite TV show) or going on Netflix(my favorite website).
Something new that Snapchat is really considering is adding picture processing. This would be when you take a picture of a couch, Snapchat would then process it and sink it to Amazon and Amazon would then show relatable items that are available to buy. Basically you can buy something through taking a picture (Rehwald). Businesses also use snapchat to advertise new products they have. Businesses can have customers become friends with them on snapchat
Public Relations has acknowledged public involvement as the most essential factor of the practice since its creation. However, the means and methods of reaching the public remained significantly limited until recently. Over the last decade, public relations has welcomed the use of varied tools, including new media, to further their reach and cultivate relationships with its publics. The term “new media” encompasses a variety of non-traditional methods including social media. Social media has become a significant catalyst in the communication sector of public relations. As technology increases and develops in this century, the use of social media increases as well. Schools have begun adapting it, using it as their tool to inform students of any school related news. However, using it as a tool for learning is a different story. By using it as a tool, it can push you off your course with classes. Social media is something that is not needed at school grounds. Schools should not require social media use in classes.
Do I personally, believe that social media is a fad; defiantly not. Social media has spread faster than wild fire. I believe currently that this is the era of the “Social Media Revolution”, where it seems that multiple generations have already chosen to conform into tech savvy users, in order to communicate and market to that 50% of under thirty category, and the 96% of millennial’s. The Tech savvy user’s population that can relate to the individual’s that seek self-gratification through the use of social media is only thinking of me, me, and me again. Its Almost like a drug, and it is addicting, pulling our focus when driving, first thing in the morning, and at night before we go to bed, some can’t even part with, when sitting on the John, it is the modern news paper in tablet form. Personally I feel like I’m in the twilight zone from time to time, I hate my phone not because it won’t stop ringing in my case it never rings, I hear what the call phantom rings where I think
Social media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Now years before, social media was not even a part of the world we live in, and people had to come up with new ideas and ways of communicating. However, over the years due to advancements in technology and automation, people around the world have been given an opportunity to communicate not only in the proximity that they live in but expand outside their city, state or country and interact with people around the world. Ultimately, social media has created a gateway for people to use their interpersonal skills and develop a relationship with people they would not normally have a chance to converse with. Leadership qualities are what makes a person who they are and without them, we, as humans, would not be able to influence others to let them
instances of self-image as a pre-cursor to general deviance and aggressive behaviors (Barlow, 1991). While O’Keefe & Clarke-Pearson studied the effects of social media on children, Schau, & Gilly (2003) chronicled the social effects of the internet on young adult users. The researchers believed that extended consequences of social media on adults affected Firestone’s critical inner voice (Schau, & Gilly 2003). Schau and Gilly believed that social media skewed the dynamic that exists as a negative filter through which to view our lives and decisions we make (Schau & Gilly 2003). The researchers theorized that the voice is created during times of stress or trauma during early adolescence and can be influenced by both positive and negative stimulus (Schau, & Gilly 2003.

Now, after 16 years, with rapidly developing Internet technologies, young people have at their disposal a variety of different means of communication. Modern teenagers are significantly different from the teenage generation of the past when the world existed without cellphones, computers and social networks, which now have become the primary means of communication.
