Seaworld has many majestic animals under captivity in their amusement parks across the United States. There are nearly 50 orcas in captivity around the world, Seaworld owns 23 of those captive Orcas. Many of these orcas that are in captivity are held in small tanks that are just a fraction of their natural environment. Many of the sea life animals are used for amusement park entertainment. There are countless number of animals being held captive in Seaworld. Orcas, dolphins, beluga whales, sharks, manatees, penguins, sea turtles, and stingrays are just some of the animals that Seaworld claims to be their “stars”. These animals belong out in the wild where they came from not in a tank or cage being watched by the human eye every second of their lives. Wild orcas when in their natural habitat dive hundreds of feet underneath the water, the deepest ever recorded record is 1,000 feet. In comparison to orcas in captivity the average show pool depth is only 27.6 feet deep. Having a very shallow pool for such large animals they are forced to swim up at surface of the water. Many people believe that because the animals are swimming at the surface for a majority of their life it might be the cause of what is known as the “dorsal droop”. While keeping animals captive we have learned more about many species, things we may not have been able to learn in the wild. Also many people that work at Seaworld are very dedicated to their work, the work that is quite difficult to find elsewhere. Seaworld allows millions of people a year to be educated by how asstounding the animals are. Seaworld also saves and rescues ill, orphaned, and injured animals in the wild. “Seaworld has rescued nearly 24,000 animals, which is more than any other rescue organization in the United States.
