Osteoarthritis can be known as or sometimes called degenerative joint disease. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease that affects not only the old and sick, although 55 and older are most common to be affected, people of all ages may receive osteoarthritis (OA). Approximately 27 million Americans are sharing the same common chronic conditions of the joints.
Every disease is known for having their own cycle or process; well as for Osteoarthritis its process is pretty complex. In osteoarthritis (OA), at the end of the bone where they meet to form a joint, allowing movement, the cartilage covering the bone begins something called breakdown. Cartilage is a tissue that cushions the joint when it moves. As the cartilage wears away, the bones are now exposed and they begin to rub against one another. The bone is no longer functioning smoothly, for the joints shape and makeup is affected due to cartilage deterioration. Due to the fact that your bones are being rubbed against one another it is highly possible that other problems can occur inside the joint.
Osteoarthritis can affect almost any joint in the body. That is why the symptoms for this disease vary. The most typical joints that may be affected are the ones that carry weight over the years, such as the knees, hips, and the lower back. Other joints like shoulders, elbow, and ankles are less likely to be affected unless the joint has been damaged before. Another way to think of this would be by naming the joints that allow us to lead active lives, such as depending on the back, hips, feet and knees for walking; shoulders and hands for lifting; or even all of the above for working. Taking care of your body is highly important, even if you know you’re sick or not. Why live in pain and in hurt when you can be happy. Although you can’t control what gets pasted down your family you can control other factors. Make sure if you do get it to wear splints to reduce the chances of the osteoarthritis getting worse
