The United States of America is known for the equality that is provided, on the surface, however not every person is actually equal to another. In Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Ferlinghetti describes a scenario that seamlessly displays the differences between people in American societies. There are two scavengers which are garbage men that are on their way home, and two beautiful people, on their way to their architect’s office. The garbage men’s day ends but the young couple’s is only beginning. Ferlinghetti compares the two pairs in detail, then seems to ask at the end of the poem whether America really is a “democracy”. The comparisons show how the idea that the democracy of the U.S.A (United States of America) is believed that each and every person is to be equal, but under the surface that Ferlinghetti has provided the differences are easily discovered. The groups who are not of equal status perfectly show that the democracy that America takes pride in does not really fulfill the dream illustrated.

People in the towns and cities saw they were good transporter so as roads were built and paved more people start owning them. The Interstate Highway System was a big movement for truckers now they could haul there companies goods farther to other cities. The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 helped drivers who went on strike because of the price of gas to run and operate the trucks. Alex Debogorski was a long haul trucker introduced to trucking when he was looking to earn more money to do for his family. As he drove he realized how good the open road looks as the road meet the sky. Now he is on some of CMT’s episodes of Ice Road Truckers, he said If it wasn’t for his parents and wife he wouldn’t have made it. He also open the door for most of the truckers with criminal records. He helped pas the law that states if your drving record is good you can go in for the long haul.

After WW1, this brought an increase in good roads plus an expanding economy. This helped grow the trucking industry. The 1920’s were the years of innovation. The balloon tires were introduced along with the rail road’s that were established “piggy-back” service. The first mechanically refrigerated van was introduced. In 1925, there were 500,000 miles of hard surface roads in the U.S. In 1926, a fully loaded 2 ton truck was driven from New York to San Francisco in five days.
During the times span between 1920 and 1929, the United states experienced a dramatic change in society on an environmental, industrial, and cultural level. The availability of automobiles to the common citizen molded the American landscape, industry, and national identity. As a result, the financial and cultural gap between the upper class wealth and the lower class laborers shrank and the first semi-modern middle class was born. Henry Ford helped fuel the revolution of the American Dream by providing jobs that offered financial stability and transportation which offered a freedom many people had never experienced before. The “horseless wagon” improved street conditions and overall living conditions. People now had the ability to travel quickly and inexpensively in and out of cities. People who lived in the rural isolation of their farms were also able to transport their goods less expensively and easily to new markets. However, many argued that not all aspects associated with the automobile were viewed as positive. Cars became a speedy way to avoid the police and facilitated crime, especially involving alcohol.
However, it was not easy for the railroad industry to promote their innovative new mode of transportation. With vision and ingenuity, the pioneers of the early American railroads were able to surmount all obstacles that stood in their way and led the Nation into a “transportation revolution.”
I remember the smell of diesel was extra potent than normal, as I drank my coffee in my truck waiting for the sun to come up. During rig move we have our 3 huge CAT generators each one the same size of a full-size truck and each having twin turbos the size of trick tires. We must turn them off for rig move. So, there’s no lights on locations at the time which our crew was fine with being a Monday and no one had much motivation do work or be up early like we normally had to be. Most of the guys on my crew would drive to work the night before and then work their 12-hour shift before getting sleep just to be able to spend all the time possible with their family. We had one guy from Colorado named Carlos, another from Arizona named Yohan both would do the 10-hour drive the night before making them almost useless, even if they drink energy drinks and coffee. The other 2 guys on my crew lived in North Dakota only about a 2-hour drive for them.

Throughout the history of modern civilization, there have been a number of inventions, contraptions, and processes to have made profound impacts on everyday life, and redefine the world, as we know it. With effective quality management, measures American industrialist and innovator Henry Ford used the assembly line to streamline the automotive manufacturing process and transform the American Industry. In this society cars are used to get around but to some people, it’s a way to get around, but to some people it’s a way to express them.
