US Founding Ideals Two hundred and twenty five years ago, a document was added to our constitution granting us five ideals. This document was called the Bill of Rights, which granted us the basic rights of opportunity, liberty, equality, democracy and rights. Since the Bill of Rights was added, not all of the ideals have been obeyed consistently. Liberty, rights, and democracy have been followed well throughout the years, but opportunity and equality have fluctuated. Although the constitution and bill of rights says every american should be granted with these ideals, some americans simply did not make that so. Equality has been one of the more problematic throughout the years. For example, when people owned slaves and before men and women were made equal there was no sense of equality through all people. Recently there has been a battle for more equality towards African-Americans. They believe that they are not being treated the same as white people, so they have been standing up for what they think is right. African-Americans feel as though white people are treated better than they are and want things to be equal between the both of them. This has been a very long issue, going back all the way to when people still owned slaves, so there has never been that sense …show more content…

Democracy has stayed consistent because of our government and the fact that the body of the US still votes for who we think we should be president every four years. The ten amendments that established rights that every person should should have are still intact. One example of liberty is on placard 2N. This placard had a picture of american youth during the 1960s. This picture expresses liberty because it shows how they american youth was able to act as they wanted, which they wanted to rebel. All of these ideals, liberty, democracy and rights are still given to each person
