We all have fallen into the overwhelming force of conformity at some instant in our lives. This happens when we buy a newly-developed product that all of our friends have, or something even as simple as beginning to clap because you hear it around you. It is in our human nature to conform to those around us, and most of the time people believe that they are in control of their actions and behavior, but this is not always true. The great majority of the time, we are just following in the footsteps of others, and we undermine our own personal and behavioral ideals to trail in the shadows of those before us. Taking into account the vast variety of projects and activities societies have accomplished, I believe I step away from the everyday processes of mankind. One of my all-time greatest passions is drumming. I have participated in countless marching band competitions, as well as an independent marching unit which is based around leadership, friendship, and humility. The purpose of these groups are to come together as one unit to create a magnificent performance that will leave those who watch it stunned and amazed. This is just one example of how I choose to do new and exciting activities to help my understanding of conformity. The time, commitment, and dedication it takes for someone to perform in groups like these are immense, so people usually do not choose to undertake a challenge such as these. My view on these programs is that it helps me become my own person while still forming together with others to show that I can accomplish demanding tasks alone or in a group with over two hundred people. Taking away the pressures of conforming, this activity has truly made me into the leader and performer I am today. It has truly taught me how to come together as a single unit while still maintaining the independence I know we all deserve as
