Yearly 4 million babies born in the United States, but only 1 in 33 are recorded with a birth defect. These statistics recorded from the CDC shows us that only 3% of babies yearly are affected with birth defects, and this means that 3% of families within the United States are struggling with taking care of a child with a birth defect. As a result of birth defects, parents tend to feel both negatively and positively about their child. When taking an ultrasound, parents want to know if their child is healthy or not; finding out that their child has a birth defect pre-birth really affect the parents on how they feel for the child. Parents tend to feel negatively about their child because they want a healthy baby, and it really stresses both spouses out when finding out about having a baby with a birth defect and all the extra work that is required to take care of a baby with a birth defect. (Parenting). In a negative sense, parents tend to not socialize as much with their friends, and the outer world due to having to take care of their child 24/7. Some parents interviewed by Healthtalk had said that going outside with their child was a hassle because eyes would always be on them, and they could always see people giving their child nasty remarks. Parents had troubles because they would lose a lot of money because they had to take unpaid leaves, or their holiday days to take care of their child. Children are susceptible to colds and flus, so this leads parents having to take care of their child 24/7 again. Parents tend to not go out as much in the world because they fear that their child will get a disease or an illness and do not want to risk their childs
