The banning of books has now become a common policy in the US. Books are becoming banned for numerous reasons that some people might view as dumb or irrelevant. Many authors think that censorship is unfair and “Writers want to talk about creation, and censorship is anti-creation, negative energy, or uncreation…”(Rushdie 2017). When books become banned they are considered a violation to the first amendment by restricting what it is considered the authors freedom of speech. Censorship is also known for intruding art. This policy is unfair to the authors that put a lot of time into writing these books and expect to receive a profit, but instead they receive a ban on their book.
An example of a book that has been banned and challenged is Lord of The Flies by William Golding. This book is the eighth most banned and challenged book in the United States. The reason that this book was banned in schools is because the book promotes pro-slavery and the whole plot revolves around kids bullying each other. This book is about a group of kids that are stranded on an island and have to fight to survive in the wild. They have no adults and are all pretty young. This is probably the main reason it was banned just because the bullying was towards the young kids. It would probably be a different story …show more content…

The reason i believe this is because the book is a really good book. Also the story line is super interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time while i read this. I can understand while some schools would ban this because it is a unapropriet book for children, but banning it like for a state is just uncalled for. The author of this book worked very hard to produce such a deep book and to just take that away from them is just rude. Banning this book in states is just dumb because you’re putting restrictions on what adults can read and they’re adults and can see, hear, and read whatever they feel like
