Fear can eat away at the conscience of people and even animals to completely change trains of thought and actions. Fear can be felt through any species, through different emotions, and can affect the behavior of the mind and body. It can create monsters of people and can drive ordinary individuals to the point of insanity. The dictionary definition does not simply describe the actual meaning of fear. Merriam-Webster's definition states fear as “an unpleasant often strong emotion caused by anticipation or awareness of danger”. Fear comes from Old English when it was defined as “frightened” or “danger” which describes a piece of it. It can undertake individuals into monsters and construct the body to perform in unwanted methods. However, fear can also affect the body for the better by preparing the brain to go into fight or flight mode. It can be life threatening in which fear is significantly superb; it can enhance the senses to practically save the mortal's life. But, fear can also freeze the body, leaving souls vulnerable to danger. Fear can instruct people to react inappropriately to the situation at hand. There has been many cases in which heinous acts are performed. Whether it is controversial murders involving race or acts of self-defense. Such as someone intruding a home, us humans have the sense of fear to act quickly and protect our homes and families. In recent times, there has been notable killings of black men by white men because they state they acted in self-defense in which they feared for their safety. For example, Michael Slager, a former cop, had shot and killed an unarmed man that goes by the name of Walter Scott. It was just an ordinary traffic stop when Scott began to run away, which caused the police officer to fire many rounds of bullets into his back. The cop later says that he feared for his life when he shot Walter Scott. Fear made him act in such a horrendous way that he took a man's life. Of course, there might have been other reasons he killed him, but that is not the point. Fear can formulate the best out of our bodies to protect us and those around us.
