As Jonas reached the top of the hill, the chill seemed to grow from his bones. Jonas and Gabe climbed onto the red sled from the memory. He clutched Gabe closer as the sled gained speed and the trees flew by. A few feet from the base of the snowy hill, the sled broke on impact with a rock. Jonas staggered out of the snow, trying to rub warmth into the newchild, who had begun to shiver violently.

He collapsed at the base of the house, the one with lights, music and grandparents. A young girl swung open the door and ushered the two inside.

Jonas lay in blankets, sipping at a warm brown drink when his body was warm enough to speak.

“ You had the memories, you knew the sled would be there because we gave the memory. My family- we gave the memories of happiness, music, Christmas- the festival with a tree, lights and gifts and all of the others to the first Giver. You knew it would be there because of your ability to see beyond” the girl paused, breathless. “ You're instinct knew the truth. All instincts do.Yours wanted to find Elsewhere.

The girl looked at him in sorrow.

“ Oh Jonas, you must know bye now. How the others went to Elsewhere”

Realization struck Jonas. He opened his to mouth to try and say something, but words failed him. The girl nodded.

“ Yes Jonas, to truly reach Elsewhere, you must embrace what took the rest there” she gulped.

Jonas collapsed. As the girl rushed over, he told her

“ Take care of Gabe”

“ I will”
The newchild climbed up to Jonas, and grabbed his ears with his chubby hands. The girl picked him up and Gabe squealed and began to play with her hair. As Jonas closed his eyes, he saw ghostly figures. With his abilities, he saw Rosemary, the twin, Larissa, Caleb, and much more. Then the scene changed. He saw the community.
