Environmental challenges facing the American auto industry.

Transportation is one of the basic necessities of human civilization. If there is no transportation on land, sea, or air, there may not be communication between human beings on this planet. But there are also side effects of transportation, which includes pollution. Pollution means the harmful wastes produced by humans which damage our environment in many ways. The fast population growth rate of humans means that the necessity for transportation vehicles is also enormously increasing. In the report by Sullivan et.al (7), they tabulated the material composition of a generic mid-size car, and the ferrous materials which used (cast iron and steel) make up nearly two thirds of the total vehicle weight. However, this fraction has been reduced significantly over the last several decades as lighter materials like aluminum and plastics have begun to supplant the use of ferrous materials.

According to the EEA, simply making more efficient engines might not be enough to reduce pollution from larger cars.
