Whether it is for a job, to travel or for the sake of entertainment, chances are high English will have an important role in those activities as “In recent years, the term ‘English as a lingua franca’ (ELF) has emerged as a way of referring to communication in English between speakers with different first languages. From that exchange, it is clear that Monica prefers reading over listening on the receptive skills of language while she prefers speaking over writing on the productive skills of language. Monica’s motivation for learning English is almost exclusively intrinsic; while she is aware that English could influence her salary, her main reason to study is to gain access to more knowledge resources and to share opinions and experiences with others. There is no one demanding any grades from her, it is herself who aims for better results for her betterment.

“Learning involves the acquisition of abstract concepts that can be applied flexibly in a range of situations, the impetus for the development of new concepts is provided by new experiences, hence; learning is the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience” (Kolb, 1984)
