RATIONALE: (lesson justification - why the students need to learn these topics)
How can someone relate the following words, followers, participants, collaborators, constituents, leaders, facilitators, and change agents? These words can be used to describe someone who has shown signs of a leader. Leadership can be defined as a relational and ethical process of people trying to make a positive change for the good of a group. Leadership is a critical part of education for students. A student needs to learn, what a leader is, how to spot a leader, how to be a leader, characteristics of leadership, what a good and bad leader look like, and how to follow a good leader when necessary. Deliver your best material, engage the students and make them want to come back. Being that this is the first lesson of this course, students will be introduced to emotionally intelligent leadership, and how to identify a leader. Within this 3 hour session, broken up into two class meetings, we will be focusing on emotionally intelligent leadership and consciousness of self. This week students will complete the Emotionally Intelligent Leadership snapshot in their workbooks, students will then break up into groups and discuss their outcome from the assessment. This gives student an opportunity to meet the other students and learn something about them. We will also learn the eight capacities of consciousness of self by identifying areas for personal growth. This will be taught using two different activities, 1) a SWOT analysis 2) students will learn strengths of famous …show more content…

Students will identity areas for personal growth and development after they hear a short description of each capacity. Groups will then present what they found to the class.

Emotionally Intelligent Leadership:
Student workbook 2.3 and 2.4 Pictures of 23 leaders built into a slideshow 50 Minuets As a class, we will discuss what makes a leader. Using prior material learned about consciousness of self and self-snapshot, students will rate each leader shown in the presentation using the eight capacities as each leader is shown.
Wrap-Up Notes from lesson
Course schedule 20 Minuets Ensure students know how recognize their values, recognize a leader, and know when to follow instead of leading. Ensure that students have their reading and homework assignments for the next
