In 1999 a new white rapper emerged and blew everyone's’ minds! Eminem was born October 17, 1972, he grew up in a volatile home. He had to move schools two to three times a year and was invariably bullied. When he was nine he got beaten up so crudely he was in a comma for a week. His father abandoned him at six months leaving his mom to take care of young Marshall Bruce Mathers II. He was exposed to rap as a teenager and studied the dictionary to learn creative words to use in his raps. He always enjoyed English class and had a decent grade in it too, but he did fail the rest of his classes. Eminem had to repeat ninth grade three times and eventually dropped out. After he dropped out his only focus was rap battles, he was the only white man competing, and was shown no respect. His song “Rap God” has one thousand five hundred sixty words and was six minutes long. His song “Lose Yourself” was the first rap song to win Number One Song of the Year for the Grammys. Eminem was in The Guinness Book of World Records multiple times. He wrote the song “Lose Yourself” on the set of 8 Mile, he would jot down notes in between takes. A study showed that he has the best vocabulary in the game, out of ninety three artists in over twenty five genres he was found to have the widest vocabulary with eight thousand eight hundred eighteen unique words. …show more content…

“Lose Yourself” is an aggressive song and is about Eminem’s hard life story. It is about how he had to earn his respect, Eminem was treated like trash because he was white. The song really connects to you and makes you feel for Eminem and the tough times he went through. “Lose Yourself” starts out with a piano intro and once Eminem starts singing the tempo goes from slow to upbeat.
