In 1999 a new white rapper emerged and blew everyone's’ minds! Eminem was born October 17, 1972, he grew up in a volatile home. He had to move schools two to three times a year and was invariably bullied. When he was nine he got beaten up so crudely he was in a comma for a week. His father abandoned him at six months leaving his mom to take care of young Marshall Bruce Mathers II. He was exposed to rap as a teenager and studied the dictionary to learn creative words to use in his raps. He always enjoyed English class and had a decent grade in it too, but he did fail the rest of his classes. Eminem had to repeat ninth grade three times and eventually dropped out. After he dropped out his only focus was rap battles, he was the only white man competing, and was shown no respect. His song “Rap God” has one thousand five hundred sixty words and was six minutes long. His song “Lose Yourself” was the first rap song to win Number One Song of the Year for the Grammys. Eminem was in The Guinness Book of World Records multiple times. He wrote the song “Lose Yourself” on the set of 8 Mile, he would jot down notes in between takes. A study showed that he has the best vocabulary in the game, out of ninety three artists in over twenty five genres he was found to have the widest vocabulary with eight thousand eight hundred eighteen unique words. …show more content…

The theory that best explains Eminem is social-cognitive theory. Rapper Marshall Mathers, also known as Eminem, was born into a broken home with his father leaving when he was an infant. Marshall began underground rapping in order to move out of his devastating environment. Eminem learned how to become hard and closed off from growing up in a poor part of Detroit. Eminem has a very high internal locus. One can see an example of his internal locus by him doing everything he could to get out of poverty- this includes competing in the Rap Olympics in 1992. Eminem was signed by Dr.Dre and soon moved from Michigan to California, albeit without his daughter and his wife.
Many white rappers have had a difficult time making it in the black industry of rap. Eminem, the most recent white rapper to hit the mainstream has had his own share of difficulties in this industry and in his life as well. The poem written my Marshall Mathers, now known as Eminem, entitled "Life," displays Eminem's views on his life, and just life in general. Eminem has continued on the legacy of the contact zone between the white men in the black man's industry, this being rap.
Carney’s clever style of writing indicates a strong point of view defending Eminem , but his style of writing has allowed the reader to make their own decision, giving a fair balance between good and bad. “Eminem deals in some very sick stuff, no doubt about it,” but again goes on to say, “Eminem is a skillfull storyteller and role player.

Eminem came from poverties that many would not succeed from. Many doubted Eminem for becoming a rapper because of his color, lack of lyrical skills, and lifestyle. It even accumulated when he dropped out of high school and pursued his rapping career. He never believed of failure which motivated him to engineer his own long rhyming skills. He used his own adversities to inspire his songs which many consider masterpieces. His daughter Hailey made a great contribution towards his career as he wanted to flourish in her eyes and give all he had never had. Eminem has changed the interface of rap music and has generated a new era of rap which he will be considered as the ‘Greatest Rapper of All Time’.
Eminem was nominated for the Grammy’s Award for Best Rap Song Solo Performance with ‘Mockingbird’. Disregarding that fact that some critics dismissed the album ‘Encore’, Eminem’s vulnerably, open-minded and precisely constructed lyrics revealed the ordinary Marshall Mathers, a middle-aged single dad dealing with a broken family due to a disastrous marriage. However, he is trying to come to terms with an internal struggle due to his own personal inadequacies and shortcomings. Eminem expresses his desire to protect, care and love his children but is not there physically to provide this reassurance for them. Many fathers may experience similar struggles and can relate to this paradox.
...it song “Lose Yourself” exemplifies the use of poetry in lyrics that many rappers have been known to implement into their craft. ...st failed record was over, things took a turn for the better when Marshall met Slim Shady. An alternate personality Em met while sitting on the john one day. Slim Shady was created to take revenge on the world as well as act as a defense mechanism. He suddenly started to write songs about his life and his high school nemeses. In 1997, the night before Em left for the Rap Olympics in L.A, Em had to break into his own house because there was an eviction notice and he had nowhere to go. Em had no heat or water or electricity. Forced to sleep on the floor, Em woke up angry and ticked off. There was this black guy in the front row of the crowd yelling ‘just give to the white boy. It’s over. Give it to the white boy’. While Em may have lost the battle he won the war. Em didn’t lose when Dr. Dre took a listen to Eminem on a demo tape. (Dr. Dre is the Godfather of Rap). “In my entire career in the music industry, “Dre says” I have never found anything on a demo tape of a CD. When Jimmy played this, I said, ‘Find him, Now!’” (www.eminem.com/bibliography, 1). It’s been mostly downhill from there with his music career. His debut record The Slim Shady LP sold 480,000 copies in the first week.
