Romantic comedy, also known as "rom-coms" or "romedies", are films with humorous plot lines, focused on romantic ideals such as that true love is able to overcome any obstacles. During the Elizabethan era Romantic comedy was a very common theme to use for plays during the time. Romantic comedy basic elements are love, relationship interactions, trickery, role reversal, disguise and status. A chaste Maid in Cheapside and Friar Bacon and Friar Bungay both are written during the Elizabethan era shows a lot common issue of arranged marriages during the era, compelling the audience to watch how the lovers will end up in the end in the play.

Before the Parson could marry them, Yellowhammer and Sir Walter arrive to stop the marriage ceremony. Yellowhammer is furious with Touchwood Junior for tricking him into making a wedding ring for his own daughter's marriage. He vows to lock Moll in her room and guard her closely until she is married off to Sir Walter. Before taking Moll unwillingly, she tells Touchwood Junior that, even though she’ll never see him again, she will always love him. Sir Walter disowns any friendship with Touchwood Junior since he tried to steal Moll away from him. This shows how children are being affected due to their parent’s greediness for building their status, even though they are a wealthy family. Edward goes to Friar Bacon, Lacey disguises himself as a country swain and goes to win Margret for Edward. Throughout this process the unexpected happened to Lacey. He noticed that he had truly fallen in love with Margret. Margret notices that Lacey is quite different from the other farmers. Lacey is more educated and well mannered. She distinguishes this and discovers that Lacey is not from there. Once Lacey admits that he’s in disguise Margret gets mad. Margret is mad that she was being fooled to, but Margret loves Lacey and forgives him. Edward was devastated to find out that Margret and Lacey had a thing for each other. Edward felt betrayed by his best man. Edward finally gives in, accepts their loved, and decides to marry Elinor, daughter of the King of Castile. Even after everything Lacey decides to test Margret’s love by sending her a letter saying that he will be marrying someone else. Due to this letter Margret decides to become a nun. Lacey comes just in time to stop her, and there is a double wedding. Love is a powerful emotion that can connect people.
